Defensive lineman Jake Johnson commits to the USC Trojans
The USC Trojans have scored on the recruiting trail once again as three-star defensive tackle Jake Johnson (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) announced his commitment.
The 6-foot-3, 290-pound defensive lineman was a big-time recruiting riser this offseason as a number of programs came calling. USC extended an offer at the end of January when defensive line coach Eric Henderson visited Johnson. North Carolina, SMU, TCU and Wisconsin became heavily involved as well but the Trojans made a huge move when Johnson and his father visited for a spring practice in March.
That visit clearly made a huge impact on Johnson, who didn’t even wait around to take his scheduled summer official visit to USC to make this commitment.
“The overall feel of the visit was fantastic,” Johnson said of that visit. “They did a great job showing how they run their operation and how they get after it every day with the same intentions and intensity. And the coaches have great chemistry together and make it a great work environment. The facilities were amazing and they’re building a brand new one that would be completed by the time I am in college.”

Johnson is an intriguing interior defensive line prospect, having flipped over from the offensive line as a sophomore in high school. He shows impressive get-off and strong hands at the point of attack, plus a relentless motor. He also played some on the offensive side of the ball this past season, working as an extra lineman or blocking tight end.
Johnson finished his junior season with 50 tackles, including 11 for loss and nine sacks, plus 16 quarterback pressures.
The 2026 defensive line class being put together by position coaches Eric Henderson and Shaun Nua is phenomenal. Johnson joins four-star edge Simote Katoanga, four-star lineman Jaimeon Winfield, four-star lineman TomTom Topui, four-star lineman Braeden Jones, three-star edge Andrew Williams and three-star lineman Malik Brooks as USC commitments.
