Former USC running back Kenan Christon finally has an opportunity to continue his college football career. And he’ll do it close to home.

The former Trojan was rumored to be heading to San Diego State, in the same city where he became a high school standout at Madison High School. With his paperwork officially through, Christon announced his new home.

This is definitely a “what could have been” situation for USC and Christon. As a true freshman in 2019, he was thrust into the lineup due to injuries at the position. He responded to the early playing time with 373 yards rushing and two touchdowns, to go with 11 receptions for 126 yards and three more scores.

Christon had a few standout performances during that 2019 season. He burst onto the scene against Arizona, rushing for 103 yards and two long touchdowns. Later that year, he caught four passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona State.

As a sophomore, his role didn’t increase. He finished the shortened 2020 season with just 10 carries and two receptions.

Christon was suspended in early September after a physical altercation with another student. Though no charges were filed and Christon claimed the two parties reconciled, he was suspended for roughly 15 months. That would carry through the remainder of the 2021 season and all of the 2022 season.

His suspension was ultimately shortened and expired on May 12. But Christon entered the transfer portal on Dec. 15.

USC’s Running Back Position

USC and head coach Lincoln Riley have done well at running back this offseason. Former Oregon standout Travis Dye looks to be the starter. And former Stanford back Austin Jones is a potential No. 2. The Trojans will also welcome four-star, do-it-all offensive weapon Raleek Brown to campus this summer. Last year’s transfer portal addition, Darwin Barlow, is back and looking to contribute heavily this fall.
