Nation's No. 1 LB Nasir Wyatt names USC in top-8

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star linebacker Nasir Wyatt is among the highest of priorities for USC in the 2025 class.
Wyatt is the No. 24 overall prospect and No. 2 linebacker in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in California.
The On300 rankings are even higher on Wyatt, ranking at No. 22 overall and the No. 1 linebacker in the 2025 class.
On Wednesday, Wyatt announced a top-8 group, the first cut down of any kind in his recruitment. It was a ‘who’s who’ group of programs.
Wyatt’s top group is USC, Tennessee, Ohio State, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, and Notre Dame.
On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine on Wyatt
The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder holds 20 offers. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM), the USC Trojans have the best chance to land Wyatt at 56.4%. Currently no other teams in his top-8 have odds above 6%.
RPM was released to the public in December 2021. The On3 engineering group teamed up with Spiny.ai to create the industry’s first algorithm and machine learning-based product to predict where athletes will attend college.
It factors in machine learning, social sentiment, visits and historical trends. However, expert predictions are still a big piece of the RPM equation.

To learn more on his recruitment
WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader was on hand this past weekend and came away some key updates on Wyatt’s recruitment.
For those not familiar with his game, while he is listed as a linebacker, he fits into the outside linebacker/edge rusher position for his future.

Wyatt was already a guy everybody was paying attention to, but he’s noticeably better from a year ago.
“I feel like I’m not even at my best, but I’m getting there,” Wyatt said. “I feel like I still got more to learn with coming off the edge, mastering the pass rush and mastering the bend. So, it’s a learning lesson every time I come out here….every week. Just doing everything I was trained to do and making plays.”
Wyatt’s pure electric ability is not the only reason why he is such a priority for USC in the 2025 cycle. As a top prospect coming out of Mater Dei, landing him would go a long way in restoring the connection with the powerhouse program to USC and keeping other top in-state talents in the state.
