On this week’s “Inside the Trojans’ Huddle”, panelists Marc Kulkin, Chris Arledge, Steve Bisheff, and Greg Katz analyze USC’s recent move to the Big Ten in 2024; the recruiting effect of the Big Ten move; the fan response to leaving the Pac-12; Musings with Arledge; the future of the Rose Bowl; and viewer questions and panel answers on the new conference movements.

In the first quarter of ITTH, the panel gives its overall thoughts on USC and UCLA heading to the Big 10 in 2024. The perspective is both fascinating and illuminating. Who is a better position to succeed and why did UCLA make the move? Is it simply all pros and no cons?

In the second quarter, the panel is asked how the Trojans move to the Big Ten will affect recruiting. The panel discusses the pros and cons of the big move of conferences. Recruiting is a two-way street that could find that local players in southern California leaving for other Big Ten schools knowing their families could see them return to SoCal and play live at either the Coliseum or the Rose Bowl.

For the halftime segment, the panel discusses the USC fans’ reaction to the move to the Big Ten. Among the bullet points are travel costs, new rivalries, new legendary stadiums to visit, and new geographical locations.

In the Huddle’s third quarter, the panel gives their assessment on the future of the Pac-12 and any further conference defections to the Big Ten. The panel looks at a pecking order of teams from the Pac-12 that could be eventually invited into the Big Ten, but it all could revolve upon what Notre Dame wishes to do in the future. The odd man out could be the Cal Bears in terms of moving to the Big Ten. The panel looks at four teams that could be in the mix to be added to the Big Ten and looks at their television marketing value.

For the lighting of the traditional “Chris Arledge Coliseum Torch” between the third and fourth quarter, “Musings with Arledge” gives Chris’s take on the University of Oregon and its whims of moving on to the Big Ten. Arledge throws a slap of potential new conference reality or rejection into Phil Knight’s Eugene program.

In the fourth quarter, the panel gives their overall view how the change in the Pac-12 will affect the future of the Rose Bowl. There is some sentiment of making the Rose Bowl the permanent national championship game. Some panel members bemoan that the best days of the Rose Bowl may be behind it. However, one panelist says the Rose Bowl will survive because of the parade and it’s an event in the nation’s conscience.

And in Overtime, the panel answers viewer questions pertaining to the Trojans move to the Big Ten Conference, and its effect in different areas of college football.  One viewer question asks if Lincoln Riley knew beforehand the Trojans were moving to the Big Ten. Listen to what the panel believes Riley knew or didn’t know.
