The USC Trojans climb in AP, Coaches polls following win over Iowa

The USC Trojans (8-2, 6-1) continued their upward climb in both polls this week following a 26-21 win over a No. 21 Iowa Hawkeye team in tough weather conditions.

USC is No. 16 in this week’s Coaches Poll, a two-spot jump from its No. 18 ranking last week. The Trojans are also No. 16 in the AP Poll, a one-spot move from last week.

USC is behind a 9-1 Georgia Tech team in both polls that has done absolutely nothing of substance this season and just escaped a 1-10 Boston College team with a last-second field goal. The Trojans are also behind a cluster of two-loss teams that includes Vanderbilt, Utah and Miami.

The Trojans have an opportunity to make a major move next week with a trip to take on an Oregon team ranked No. 5 in the Coaches Poll and tied for No. 6 in the AP Poll. A win in Autzen would push the Trojans well into the playoff hunt.

This is the highest USC has been in either poll this season and the No. 16 ranking in the AP Poll is the highest the Trojans have been there since the Week 6 poll last season.
