USC and head coach Lincoln Riley added an offensive weapon via the transfer portal as former Auburn wide receiver Jay Fair is headed to join the Trojans. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

“Couple reasons it felt like the move to me is the academics and the degree from this university is amazing, and the opportunities that come with it are once-in-a-lifetime,” Fair explained in a message to WeAreSC’s Scott Schrader. “From a football aspect, Coach [Dennis] Simmons and [Lincoln] Riley have been together and in sync for a long time offensively. This program has the most receivers drafted out of the program, and the development that coach Simmons can do is something that can help take my game to the next level. I just felt a genuine family atmosphere and I’m ready to go to work and be the best version of me for this program.”

The 5-foot-10, 186-pound wideout spent two seasons at Auburn after signing with the Tigers as a three-star prospect out of Dallas in the 2022 class. As a true freshman, he caught two passes for 34 yards. In 2023, his production increased to 31 receptions for 324 yards and two touchdowns. The two scores came in the first two games of the season, against UMass and Cal. His production dipped significantly over the second half of the season, but he still finished second on the team with those 31 receptions and third on the team with the 324 receiving yards.

USC needed to add a couple of wide receivers this offseason as the Trojans entered spring ball with just seven scholarship players in the room. With Raleek Brown, Mario Williams and Tahj Washington all leaving via the transfer portal or NFL Draft with at least one year of eligibility remaining, Zachariah Branch and Makai Lemon remained as the only two scholarship inside receivers. Fair brings plenty of speed to the position and is a true slot receiver.

Fair is the third player to announce his commitment to USC during this spring transfer portal window. Former Florida State defensive back Greedy Vance is coming in to help shore up the nickel spot facing depth issues. Former UCLA (and USC) wide receiver Kyle Ford is back with the Trojans and, with Fair, will help add depth to a wide receiver room that had only seven scholarship players this spring.
