USC Bowl Game Predictions: Trojans' destination locked in?

Erik-McKinneyby: Erik McKinney11/24/25ErikTMcKinney

The No. 19 USC Trojans (8-3, 6-2) still have their rivalry game against the UCLA Bruins (3-8, 3-5) this Saturday at the Coliseum, but the Trojans are also guaranteed a bowl game this postseason. At this point, there appears to be only one destination for Lincoln Riley’s programs, though the potential opponent differs.

Takeaways

BYU would be a repeat visitor to the Alamo Bowl as the Cougars beat the Colorado Buffaloes 36-14 last year with quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter both playing in the game. The Cougars have been highly-ranked all season and are currently the No. 11 team in the AP Poll. BYU’s only loss came at Texas Tech, but the Big XIII is unlikely to get a second team into the College Football Playoff this season. They’re led by true freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier, who has completed 63% of his passes for 2,304 yards and 13 touchdowns against four interceptions. He’s also rushed for 525 yards and 11 touchdowns, but the ground game is carried by LJ Martin, who has 1,134 yards and eight scores. The BYU defense has not allowed more than 29 points in any game this season.

Houston is 8-3 this season with losses to Texas Tech, West Virginia and TCU. These two programs met three times in quick succession between 1993 and 1996 with the Trojans winning all three games by comfortable margins. Houston is ranked No. 23 this season and led by former Texas A&M quarterback Connor Weigman, who has completed 63.5% of his passes for 2,274 yards with 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Iowa State hit a four-game losing streak (Cincinnati, Colorado, BYU and Arizona State) in the middle of the season but opened with five wins and will likely close with three more. Head coach Matt Campbell is always a hot name in any coaching carousel discussion and the Cyclones are led by quarterback Rocco Becht, who has thrown for 2,471 yards and 15 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
