It’s another in a long line of preseason recognition for Monheim. He was named to the 2024 Outland Trophy Watch List and the Athlon Sports Preseason All-Big Ten First Team.
The Rimington Trophy has been awarded annually since the 2000 season and his named for former Nebraska center Dave Rimington. No USC player has ever won the award though Big Ten programs have a long history with it. Michigan and Ohio State both have three of the 25 winners. Penn State and Minnesota have each won it once. And the conference is (sort of) on a three-year winning streak. Iowa’s Tyler Linderbaum won it in 2021. Michigan’s Olusegun Oluwatimi won in 2022. And Oregon’s Jackson Powers-Johnson won it this past season.
