USC defensive end Gus Cordova to enter NCAA Transfer Portal
USC Trojans true freshman defensive lineman Gus Cordova plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens in January, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
The 6-foot-4, 270-pound freshman from Lake Travis, Texas played in USC’s first two games of the season, taking 13 snaps against Missouri State and 11 against Georgia Southern. He recorded one tackle. Cordova will be able to redshirt this season and will have four years of eligibility remaining at his next school.
USC did not have a ton of depth at defensive end this season, relying almost exclusively on Anthony Lucas, Braylan Shelby and Kameryn Crawford. Lucas is out of eligibility and there isn’t a ton of young depth coming up behind that top group. True freshman Jadyn Ramos played about the same amount at Cordova this season and will be in the mix next year. USC is also about to sign five-star edge Luke Wafle and four-star Simote Katoanga, who could both contribute early in their career.

Cordova is the fourth USC player to announce an eventual entry into the transfer portal today, joining cornerback Braylon Conley, running back Bryan Jackson and wide receiver DJ Jordan.
The NCAA transfer portal will officially open on January 2 and stay open until January 16. That is the only window players will have before the 2026 season to enter the portal.
