Veteran USC Trojans defender Anthony Beavers Jr. will enter the NCAA transfer portal when it opens in January, according to On3’s Pete Nakos.

Beavers arrived at USC as part of a talented safety haul in the 2021 class. He played in two games as a true freshman and then 14 as a redshirt freshman during the 2022 season. Beavers had 18 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery during the 2023 season while drawing his lone start in the Holiday Bowl against Louisville.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound veteran moved closer to the line of scrimmage during the 2024 season when D’Anton Lynn took over as defensive coordinator. He played linebacker for the Trojans last season and saw action in 13 games, with five starts after Eric Gentry went down due to injury.

Beavers played in just one game (Georgia Southern) on defense this year and also saw a handful of snaps on special teams against Purdue. He was not in full uniform for many games after that point as he seemingly dealt with injury. Beavers will likely need to gain a medical redshirt year because his eligibility would be up after redshirting in 2021, then playing in 2022, 2023, 2024 and two games this season. He was listed as a redshirt senior this year and participated in USC’s senior day activities ahead of the UCLA game.

The transfer portal officially opens on January 2 and the window will remain open until January 16. To follow along with WeAreSC with all the news and notes of the portal, visit our USC Trojans Transfer Portal Tracker page.
