USC rush end Romello Height enters the transfer portal

USC saw another player go into the NCAA transfer portal this offseason as rush end Romello Height entered on Friday morning.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Height finished the 2023 season with 21 tackles, including six for loss and four sacks. The four sacks ranked third on the team and the tackles for loss ranked fifth.

Height never started in 2024 as the Trojans used Jamil Muhammad at rush end, but Height did play a significant reserve role in most games. His best performance came against Utah when he played a season-high 41 snaps and tied his season-best with four quarterback pressures. Height was a major addition out of the transfer portal ahead of the 2022 season as he took over the rush end position after coming over from Auburn. But his season was cut short. A shoulder injury limited him during fall camp. He was then ejected from the season-opener late in the first half due to a targeting foul. The following week, Height re-injured his shoulder early in the game and was lost for the season.

Height was in an interesting spot going into the 2024 season because Muhammad elected to return to USC for another season and the rush end position coach, Roy Manning, is no longer on the Trojans’ staff.

He becomes the 22nd USC player to enter the NCAA transfer portal this offseason. Height likely would have been a solid addition as a depth piece edge defender, but the Trojans did add Vanderbilt transfer Nate Clifton via the portal and USC should see an increased presence from Anthony Lucas and Braylan Shelby on the edge.

Though the transfer portal window is closed to undergraduates, graduate transfers can enter the portal at any time until May 1 and be immediately eligible to play this fall.
