USC Trojans headed to the Alamo Bowl to finish 2025 season

The USC Trojans will finish their 2025 football season in the Alamo Bowl against a yet-to-be-announced Big 12 team, according to Brett McMurphy of On3.

The Alamo Bowl official announcement is expected to come Sunday by 1:00 p.m. PT, followed by a press conference at 2:00 p.m. PT.

The game will take place on Tuesday, December 30 in San Antonio, Texas. USC has never played in the Alamo Bowl.

The Trojans are riding a two-game bowl winning streak under head coach Lincoln Riley, defeating Louisville 42-28 in the 2023 Holiday Bowl and beating Texas A&M 35-31 in last year’s Las Vegas Bowl.

It’ll be interesting to see what USC’s roster looks like for this game as quarterback Jayden Maiava and wide receivers Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Land could have NFL decisions to make. The offensive line won’t have starting left tackle Elijah Paige or center Kilian O’Connor back. But the bowl game could see the return of starting running back Waymond Jordan, who hasn’t played since injuring his ankle against Michigan. He was in uniform and warmed up lightly ahead of the regular season finale against UCLA but did not play.

The Alamo Bowl destination has been seemingly locked in for weeks for USC, but McMurphy is the first to get official word. There was only one bowl representative at the USC – UCLA game and it was someone from the Alamo Bowl. BYU has been the most commonly projected opponent for the Trojans, but the Cougars will be in the College Football Playoff if they beat Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday. A loss by the Cougars could send them to San Antonio against the Trojans, but the Alamo Bowl would need to accept a repeat team in BYU, which bowls don’t always do. Houston and Iowa State are two other Big 12 teams that have been projected as potential USC opponents.
