Sophomore defensive tackle Jide Abasiri is the lone representative for the USC Trojans on Bruce Feldman’s annual College Football Freaks list.

The 6-foot-5, 295-pound Abasiri comes in at No. 38 overall and the No. 12 defensive lineman. As for why he made the list, Feldman writes:

“As a true freshman last year, the former four-star recruit appeared in 10 games and made seven tackles. The 6-5, 295-pounder from Minnesota has intriguing athleticism, having clocked 19.22 mph at nearly 300 pounds. More impressively, Abasiri’s 10-yard split was 1.60, which would be a good time for an edge rusher. He’s squatted 700 pounds.”

To compare the 10-yard split, the fastest defensive tackles at the most recent NFL Combine had 10-yard splits of 1.69 seconds. Abasiri’s time would have tied for fourth among edge rushers. First-round pick James Pearce Jr. had the fastest time there, at 1.56 seconds.

Abasiri saw the field a bit as a true freshman and is expected to take another step forward this year as part of a deep and talented USC defensive line. Defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn said Abasiri played through spring ball with “way more confidence” than he had during the fall as a true freshman.

Two USC players made last year’s Freaks list, with wide receiver Zachariah Branch at No. 84 and offensive lineman Emmanuel Pregnon at No. 84.
