Where the USC Trojans stand in the Week 14 College Football Playoff ranking

Erik-McKinneyby: Erik McKinney2 hours agoErikTMcKinney

The USC Trojans are ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff ranking this week following a 42-27 loss to the Oregon Ducks in Eugene.

That’s just a two-spot drop for the Trojans, who were No. 15 last week and had set themselves up with an opportunity to play their way into the playoff had they been able to notch a road win over the Ducks. And it’s a reflection of the Trojans hanging tough in a difficult environment and despite dealing with injuries on both sides of the ball.

USC has appeared in every CFP ranking this season, opening at No. 19 and then climbing to No. 17 the second week and then No. 15 last week.

The five highest-rated conference champions are guaranteed a spot in the field, but not a first-round bye. The remaining seven bids will be filled by seven at-large qualifiers.

Those who finish between 5-12 will participate in the first round. First round games will be hosted by the higher seed. The subsequent rounds will be played at traditional bowl sites.
