INTEL: The latest on Manhattan transfer Jose Perez

Jose Perez has scored 1,460 career D-I points. The 6-foot-5 guard, originally from the Bronx, was recently voted the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year for a Manhattan team predicted to come in second place in the league.
Then, Manhattan fired its head coach, Steve Masiello, two weeks prior to the season starting, and Perez immediately hit the portal.
Last season, at Manhattan, Perez, who had previously played at Gardner-Webb and Marquette, averaged 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game.
A slew of programs called, pretty much the majority of D-I programs who had an available scholarship to inquire.
Perez’s recruitment
Jose Perez entered his name in the portal just four days ago. He entered almost immediately after Manhattan announced they let head coach Steven Masiello go. Within an hour after going into the portal, reports were flying around of all the schools reaching out to Perez.

John Rothstein tweeted that Perez will announce his transfer decision at 5:00 PM EST on Sunday, October 30.
As the recruitment came to an end, sources close to the situation say TCU, NC State, Texas Tech, West Virginia, and Georgia Tech recruited Perez the hardest.
While recruiting winds can shift very quickly, especially down the home stretch. As of pressing ‘publish’ on this piece, intel suggests West Virginia feels very confident about its standing with Perez.
