Just one day after entering his name, Belmont forward Cade Tyson has become one of the most popular players in the transfer portal. Trent Markwith of Relentless Hoops reported Tuesday that Tyson has heard from 14 schools thus far, including many top programs.

The full list of teams is as follows: Kansas, Oregon, Florida, Auburn, Texas, Indiana, Wisconsin, Colorado, Miami, Penn State, Butler, NC State, UCF and Ole Miss.

Tyson spent two seasons playing for the Bruins after falling under the radar as a high school recruit. He made an immediate impact in his true freshman season, being named Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a finalist for the Kyle Macy Freshman of the Year Award. He started in 28 of 30 appearances to average 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game for the 2022-2023 season.

This past season he started in all 30 games for Belmont, increasing his production with 16.2 points, 1.6 assists, and a team-leading 4.8 rebounds per game. He was named Second-Team All-MVC following the season after posting 24 double-digit scoring games and nine games with 20 or more points.

At 6-foot-7, Tyson can play at the guard and forward spots, shooting extremely efficiently throughout his career with a 49.2% field goal percentage and a 44.6% 3-point percentage. That is the third-best percentage from beyond the arc in Division I this season.

Another interesting note is that Tyson is the younger brother of Denver Nuggets rookie forward Hunter Tyson, who played at Clemson. That being the case, the Tigers could also be a name to keep an eye on even though they weren’t among the list of teams to have reached out so far.

Tyson played high school basketball at Carmel Christian in Monroe, North Carolina, where he was an unranked, unrated recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He was an under-the-radar high school prospect, but as Tyson enters the NCAA transfer portal, it’s clear that’s no longer the case. Plenty of teams are hoping to bring him on their roster, and it will be interesting to see where he chooses to finish out his college career.
