Washington Huskies defensive back Asa Turner has committed to transfer to the Florida Gators.

Asa Turner entered the Transfer Portal on January 13th, which was a day after head coach Kalen DeBoer left the Washington program. DeBoer became the head coach at Alabama, replacing legendary head coach Nick Saban.

After five seasons with the Huskies, Turner is going to bring plenty of experience to the Gators. He played in 43 games during that stretch, and even amid an injury during the 2023 season, Turner remained a starter in the Washington secondary.

He has 146 career tackles, seven tackles for loss, six interceptions, and a fumble recovery over the course of his career.

Asa Turner played high school football at Carlsbad (Calif.), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 296 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Prior to committing to Florida, Asa Turner visited the program for multiple days shortly before committing.

More on the Transfer Portal for Florida, Washington

Both the Florida Gators and Washington Huskies have seen numerous changes through the Transfer Portal this offseason. In the case of Washington, that was largely thanks to the coaching change that the program underwent.

Once DeBoer left, several notable Huskies entered the Transfer Portal, including Germie Bernard, Austin Mack, and Ethan Barr among others. It also included Will Rogers, who transferred in before leaving when DeBoer did. Asa Turner was one of the biggest names leaving in the class. Three Huskies have already committed to following DeBoer to Alabama.

Several players have also already come into the program, and several more will likely enter in the coming weeks. That includes multiple former Arizona players who followed Jedd Fisch to Washington.

Florida, on the other hand, has stability at head coach with Billy Napier returning for his third season. However, he has made it clear that he is willing to use the Transfer Portal to help improve the roster and Asa Turner is the latest edition to do so.

Grayson Howard, Jameer Grimsley, and Trikweze Bridges are among the big names that have already come into the program. However, Florida has also had several key losses, like Richie Leonard.

In particular, the Gators have been making lots of changes at defensive back. Billy Napier moved on from Corey Raymond, who was coaching the secondary after the season ended. He was replaced by Will Harris. Five Florida defensive backs have already hit the Transfer Portal while Turner makes the fourth to enter the program.
