Anyone else indifferent for the coming basketball season?

[rivercatinfl]

Maybe they screwed us. Or maybe a program like Kentucky should never have to pin all their hopes on an 11th-hour transfer who probably wasn’t gonna be eligible because his brother/agent didn’t do his due diligence.

Kentucky basketball should never be held together with bubble gum like it is now.

I’m with ya on this. UK should not have a problem getting talent.
This years team has talent if they can stay healthy.
i think we are (at least I am) shortsighted on Ousmane, Frank, Williams and McBride.
I honestly think those 4 are gonna help us significantly.
Im afraid I don’t see the demise of UK basketball.

[CELTICAT]

Right now it’s dread. I’ll still pump my fists when we make plays, but I’m dreading another uneven, 12+ loss season where we finish in the middle of the pack in the SEC.

[Beatle Bum]

Nope. But let’s enjoy football first.

[Anon520599]

Not at all! This team has a real shot at running the table. 40-0!!!!!

[paulcalhoun_rivals397471]

Well as a real UK fan it just seems more logical to call it like it is than to act like Mark Pope is magically going to lead us to the promise land. Most real UK fans are tired of all the bullcrap.

Everyone's been way too nice to this guy we have running the show. I don't give a damn about 1996. It's 2026. And I was born in 96....

Thinking whining like a spoiled brat or firing the coach after two seasons short of utter catastrophe or serious off court issues is the answer is sheer stupidity.

You think the real problem is fans have been too nice?

[UKWildcats1987]

I wonder if not for NIL what our recruiting classes would have been looking like these past couple years. Because the pictures and videos from recruits with Pope that we have seen are just shockingly cringe inducing. And I say that with love for the man. Pope is a really great person. But it feels like if not for the giant bags UK is able to offer (which in total is up near the top of college basketball budgets)
we might be really, really struggling if all else was even close to being equal. I see other top young coaches and you listen to them and they are sharp, dynamic leaders with a plan and a personality to sell it. As much as I love the man it often feels like Pope is perpetually Mr Magoo at a poker table filled with sharks.

NIL is the only reason Pope gets anyone.

Na I don't think that's the real problem. Pope's shortcomings have nothing to do with the fans. But I do feel like he's protected for being a ex player or something. Not sure what it is.

That's just a ridiculous take. Firing a coach under the circumstances that have played out here is almost unheard of anywhere whether the coach has any previous connection to a program or not.

What's your stance? You think Pope's the man for the job?

[paulcalhoun_rivals397471]

What's your stance? You think Pope's the man for the job?

My stance is that he is the guy that has the job and our best chance at success would have been to show him and the program some support. I have said all along that he will obviously need to achieve more to keep the job long term. I do not think he has proven he is the man for the job long term nor has he proven he can't possibly be the guy either. All the negativity only makes things more difficult.

Pope should have never gotten the job. Hes showed why. I'm supposed to be all jolly no matter what?

[bgoad72]

Was actually super pumped again when Mitchell came on board. Then all the hope I had for a beyond sweet 16 run completely left my thoughts. We can compete and will have some good wins, but afraid it’s sweet 16 at best gain and another 7-10 losses.

[paulcalhoun_rivals397471]

Whether he should have gotten the job or not is just your opinion and pretty irrelevant to the current situation. There is a wide gap between being jolly and being an incessant whiner.

I don't see anybody being a incessant whiner tho. Pope just needs to take his mid major self on up the road so we can get a real coach.

UK keeps spending time with a joke coach we will keep being a joke. Louisville canned KP. UNC canned Hubert. Any real program doesn't accept this.

And it is just my opinion. So you can disagree without all the twelve year old antics.

[Starrcade]

Why are you arguing with Duhdee and all his side accounts? This one was created yesterday and doesnt't deserve the light of day.

You are a whiner who considers himself an expert with the ability to see the future. You are just being a clown. BYU was not a mid major.

Davis got 5 years at UNCheat. Pope has only coached here for two seasons.

I don't consider myself a expert. You're the only one I see mentioning that. No BYU isn't a mid major. Not literally. But compared to Kentucky they are.

Let me apologize for putting UK on a pedestal. Let me apologize for having to much passion for you. Let me apologize for remembering why I ever loved UK basketball in the first place.

I really dont even understand what your side is. If you want to give Pope more time that's fine. I wish we wouldnt.

Are you You saying you dont like the way i feel? The way i fan? Aw ok then..

[AllBall]

I don’t think the guard play is good enough

Agreed. I'm not sold on them playing high level winning basketball. Washington and Furman have totally different expectations than UK. Maybe they transition seamlessly but I think they'll be some growing pains. Every game matters in the Bluegrass so I hope they're ready for the spotlight.

I am saying you are being unreasonable and all the negativity has an impact on our ability to succeed. I can have a little patience and try to back our team so they have the best chance to succeed. If we aren't looking considerably better in the next year or two things will work themselves out anyway.

Man when you got the right coach all that stuff you're talking about doesn't matter. We don't have to find excuses for Stein. There's nobody being too mean to the football program.

You get a coach that can clearly succeed at a place like UK. Pope had two years and is about to start his third. Hope for the best with Pope until the season is over. I can't fake excitement. Pope brings nothing. There's nothing exciting to talk about. It's all negative.

Sure I can act like Moreno is KAT or Boogie. Sure I can act like Zoom and Wilk are Wall and Bledsoe. Sure I can act like Mom is LeBron. I could. But im not into that kind of bull s h I t.

I'll look at the facts of the last two seasons. Yeah we had some injuries. Injuries isn't Popes problem Paul. I want UK to be back on top quicker. I don't see how you go measures to make me sound crazy just because you disagree with me.

[paulcalhoun_rivals397471]

You think you know things to be fact that are not fact. Things do not always fit your videogame timeline. If you can't handle it I suggest you walk away or find another team to be a bandwagon fan of. You are doing nothing but hurting the situation with the crybaby attitude. I don't need to go to any measures to make you appear to be anything. You are doing that all by yourself.

You just created this account yesterday. You used the name Andy as well. Will you admit to being the infamous DandyAndy troll?

So you're a UK fan and you suggest another fan walk away because he has an opinion? I'm not hurting any situation man. I'm a random internet poster. Are you defending Pope?

Nothing is the fans fault. Are you seriously blaming anything on me or any fan that doesn't fart bubbles?

[DonAndy]

Can we just get another coach like Stein that obviously wants the challenge. That expects to win. We have a coach that can't succeed because he reads the internet forum and gets his feelings hurt apparently. A coach that can't attract UK caliber talent because of me and others like me.

Nothing is Popes fault.

Fans whining and trying to run the coach out of town definitely has a negative impact especially on recruiting.

[UKortho]

Fans whining and trying to run the coach out of town definitely has an impact especially on recruiting.

The only issue with recruiting is Pope’s socially awkward personality, his lack of success moving his players to the NBA, and his inability (so far) to advance deep in the NCAA tournament. Other coaches, fans, and the media don’t respect him.
Fans on a message board impacting recruiting? As you like to say that is your opinion. Not grounded in fact.

[DonAndy]

Fans whining and trying to run the coach out of town definitely has an impact especially on recruiting.

Imagine if we ran mediocre Pope out of town. We could hire somebody more qualified. We don't have to be in the final four every year. You act like somebody is spoiled and whining. Can we just get a little respect back? Not be a complete joke?

You're damn right it has a impact on recruiting. Imagine getting rid of the worst recruiter ever and getting a good recruiter. Hell on top of not being able to recruit, Popes teams don't play defense or have any fire because he has none. The experiment failed and will keep failing.

People wanting better for the program aren't the problem. Ones wanting to be nice to Pope and keep acting like we are a participation award program these days are the problem.

No way you can act like fans are the problem. The coach is just a P U S S Y. Period.

What would it matter? The head coach is still going to be a big goober WHIMP awkward non recruiting philosophical chess player.

[DonAndy]

Remember when the players mom said we were Will Smith and Duke was Carleton?

Well these days we are Carleton. Pope makes Carleton look like a triple OG pimp.

[Artlaibesghost]

What would matter is the vast majority that like UK and actually look forward to the coming season wouldnt have to read your constant repetitive BULLSHI% every time we try to discuss the upcoming season.

You literally don't have to. I post positivity non stop about the positive things. I post negative about the negative parts and yall act like somebody got murdered in cold blood.

Dude we were a 9 seed in the SEC tournament last year. I was there and rooting for them like I will be this year. But no matter what I say or don't say or how I choose to fan.....it don't change what Mark Pope will achieve at UK.

I cheered last year and we sucked. I'll cheer this year if we suck. Yall acting like this crazy amount of negativity around the basketball program has anything to do with forum posters is funny. I just want to cheer for a good team that is a real threat.

I can take a sweet sixteen if we got upset and had a great season.what I can't take is getting blown out in the Sweet sixteen being the ceiling.

[ToniTonyToneDelkDelkDelk]

Lame duck coach... we need to wrap this experiment up this year and get back on track.

[DonAndy]

When Popes own teammate from 96 says this you know it's true.

[DonAndy]

Until we get a new coach we will be the pussycats

[The_Answer1313_rivals]

I mean on one hand yeah expectations certainly aren't what they used to be and I think it's easier to get excited about the team when you know going into the season the team will be good.

Having said that, I'm still excited. I dunno to me it's still UK basketball. We could have a decent year. Who knows.

[Anon1739778738]

My expectation has fallen off drastically I will cheer for Pope and this team to win it all. I will always love UK basketball and hope they surprise us all.Losing Mitchell crushed my hopes for something special for this upcoming season and drastically lowers our chance to succeed.

You are just the kind of detached from reality person that hits reset every time your videogame doesn't get off to an optimal start. If you all would quit whining and insulting our coach it might very well help with recruiting and therefore our ability to win games. You call him what you call him knowing full well he could stomp you into a grease spot without breaking a sweat.

You act like firing the coach is the only thing keeping us from immediate Final Fours and titles. What happens if the next guy doesn't immediately set the world on fire? There are certainly no guarantees. Do you think firing the coach every year or two until you get what you want is the best way to do things?

Losing Mitchell sucked but that is not Pope's fault. Just like you UK is my team and Pope is our coach and I will root for him and our team as long as that is the case.

Actually Paul your wrong on this one. Nothing will help Popes recruiting. No I don't think firing a coach every two years is the way to do things. But when you hire Mark Pope and get a Mark Pope program you have to move on from that quickly.

You know more than anyone circumstances are different for every coach or situation. if I did and said things that you loved and agreed with it wouldn't change a thing about Mark Pope man. It just wouldn't.

Mark is a good person. He just doesn't have the connections to succeed at UK. Not to most fans standards anyway. Don't you want Kentucky basketball to be cool again? Do you seriously think Mark Pope can be a different coach if fans are overly positive for no reason?

False. If not for Cal leaving him an empty roster, injuries, and the two most difficult schedules in school history he would have won a lot more to this point. It is pretty incomprehensible that so many fail to acknowledge that schedule, injuries, and fan negativity have an impact on winning and recruiting.
