How is this different than any mid-term plan from the party not currently in power? You try to make it sound like this particular takeover is somehow different than past mid-term promises. Do you remember Newt Gingrich and the Contract with America? They didn't know they could implement their plan but it was important for their voters to understand they had a plan that they hoped to implement if given power. No difference here, putting pressure on this admin, something the Republicans aren't doing, is better than having no plan to do anything. I don't understand why you keep pushing this narrative like you think they're lying.
What would their message need to be to please you?
sorry you got that impression...both parties do it. Deceiving the American people with "false promises" is part of the American political process.
I think I compare comments from both yourself and others who bring up Trump's campaign lies - like ending the war on day 1, or ending inflation on day 1 - things we know were not possible but " a plan he hoped to implement if given power". And t hen we call him a liar. We all know that a president is dependent on Congress to create laws
But somehow we see the same things, maybe not as definitive, but definitely encouraging votes to "restore Medicaid cuts and the expanded subsidies for the ACA" ...things they know they can't do, and we refer to them as "hopes to implement if given power". And, we defend them, as you are doing here, as a means to influence voters.
I don't want you to have the impression that this is a one sided thing. Both parties do it. And even though we know that supporters - again of both parties - push the narratives as if they're real. I just think it's unique to see folks - again, to be clear not just one side, try to highlight all the changes the other party is going to bring knowing full well that they don't have the power to accomplish what they are proposing.
So, don't you think that by "publishing" their 100 day agenda which includes the Medicaid restoration and the expanded ACA subsidies, democrats are not trying to influence voters? I do, and I'm not blaming Democrat leaders for saying these things...I'd do the same thing. But we know they won't have the power to accomplish either of those actions. But look at trump...he's going to give us $5000 if Republicans maintain control . Why, because he wants to influence voters. (seen that before, in this same paragraph) He doesn't have the power to do it but its "something he hopes to do" if Republicans maintain power. So I, I've seen numerous posts on here about trump trying to influence voters with his $5000 promise - which he doesn't have the power to do. I haven't seen many about Democrats trying to influence voters with their proposals - which they don't have the power to do.
I guess I've been around this block so many times and had so many conversations with sitting members of Congress about this topic of campaign "promises" I see them for what they are. And you're 100% correct...they are "hopes". But not necessarily in the way you might think....they are "hopes" of the electorate. It's what voters want to hear....so you tell them you're going to solve the their greatest problems....nowadays it's affordability, lower prices...even to the point of stopping a merger of mayonnaise companies to protect consumers. Again, both sides do it. So are we going to see lower prices of groceries, are Medicaid cuts going to be restored or ACA subsidies restored if Democrats control the house and Senate? You and I both know the answer to that.
To answer your question about what message would please me? I'd like to see honesty, transparency, accountability from our elected officials. I personally vote on the basis of policy not personality or promises. If a candidate tells me he's going to restore my Medicaid benefits, I want to know how....specifically...he's going to get the votes in both the house and Senate and overcome a presidential veto to make that happen. Otherwise he's just patting voters on the head and saying "trust me" as he prepares the rationalization for the next campaign on why he didn't accomplish what he said he would. I'd bet he won't tell them that his earlier statements were just "hopes"
