If it iced over they weren't going to fly it anyway. There is nothing they could have done once it went into a stall. They could have been as cool as Fonzi or screaming their heads off. But they all might as well have been on a pumpkin shot out of a cannon. That's what I want in my pilot, screaming gorilla panic.

They flew over a storm right before the crash, so it's probably icing.
Would also guess a sharp ATC would have diverted them.A decent pilot would have seen the hazard and calmly changed course.

Sorry for whoever was on board. Private planes scare me.

Pilots are humans too. They're in an uncontrollable nose dive to their death. You expect her to be rational? That's what I want in my pilot, screaming gorilla panic.
As a pilot you don't ever get into that situation.Pilots are humans too. They're in an uncontrollable nose dive to their death. You expect her to be rational?
I will never, ever ever fly a chartered or private flight. Ever. I've always flown Delta and never had a problem worth mentioning. I don't want to fly a single engine plane or with a hobbyist. No thanks. This is why I donate my billions to NIL instead of flying private.**

They were not the strongest part of the storm, or a strong part of the storm in general. Conditions rapidly deteriorated in the area they were in (was previously just light rain) increasing the rate of supercooled water coming down due to their altitude, exponentially increasing the amount of aircraft icing and overwhelming the on board de-icers and adding lots of weight. As a pilot you don't ever get into that situation.
Are there warning alarms when icing starts in flight? Or is it visual detectionThey were not the strongest part of the storm, or a strong part of the storm in general. They had no PIREPs and ATC was not diverting them out of the rain.
If you want to blame the pilot go ahead, but when the NTSB report comes out, they won't blame pilot error.
Pretty much every commercial plane does. I don't know about the 25 year old Learjet they were flying on.Are there warning alarms when icing starts in flight? Or is it visual detection
Understood. ThanksPretty much every commercial plane does. I don't know about the 25 year old Learjet they were flying on.
Icing conditions are very common, and are something most aircraft deal with on a regular basis, as even in the Summer, the atmosphere is regularly below freezing above 15,000 feet. The issue is icing generally has a larger impact on smaller planes, and the storm rapidly strengthening just became too much for the Learjet to overcome, causing a stall.
Technically copilot. You can hear the pilot in the background reciting the Lords Prayer. That's what I want in my pilot, screaming gorilla panic.
I took the fam on a helicopter tour over the Na Pali coast a few years ago. It was the highlight of our vacation. During the tour we stayed in one area a little longer as some CG boats zig zagged under us. After we returned to the airport the pilot told us that another tour helicopter went down about 30 minutes before we departed. I later found out that all aboard were lost. When shopping for our tour, I almost picked that one because it cost a little less. (Although they were all expensive according to my finances.) Flight time of the tour was the same and they all fly over the same stuff anyway, right? After going back and forth trying to decide which company to go with I picked one that cost a little more just because of their equipment. The less expensive tour used Robinsons while the one I selected used Bells. I'm glad I spent the time to research the difference. (That's just how I roll when it comes to planning projects, trips, events, large purchases...) It feels weird thinking back on it how close I came to ending all our lives to save a few bucks. What else scares the crap out of me. Helicopters. That’s just a huge nope.
Wow! Thats the kind of thing that really makes you appreciate what you have. And yes, very smart to spend a little more for the company that doesn’t cut corners.I took the fam on a helicopter tour over the Na Pali coast a few years ago. It was the highlight of our vacation. Single engine helicopters are a big no. I've flown offshore in S-92s in Alaska but at least those things have RIPs on em (rotor ice protection) so they can shed the ice off the blades. Second thing.. I want all my pilots and crew to be experience ex-military.What else scares the crap out of me. Helicopters. That’s just a huge nope.
That cell exploded in intensity and vertical growth over 2 or 3 radar scans.
Yes. Just the wrong place at the wrong time. It happened so fast around them they didn’t have time to react. That cell exploded in intensity and vertical growth over 2 or 3 radar scans.

- Fatality Rates — Private aircraft have a fatality rate approximately 200 times higher per 100,000 flight hours than commercial airlines.
The difference between commercial flight and private flight when you are dealing with full time pilots and professionally maintained aircraft is not that large. Commercial flight is still definitely safer, but corporate/executive planes and on demand charters are still safer than driving.I will never, ever ever fly a chartered or private flight. Ever. I've always flown Delta and never had a problem worth mentioning. I don't want to fly a single engine plane or with a hobbyist. No thanks.
If that's not an old picture, I wonder if she was just riding along to get hours more so than be a second pilot? Think that's pretty common on private flights that don't require a second certified pilot; no clue what models require two pilots. That can’t be - according an expert in this thread, the pilot could’ve just calmly turned the plane…

From the video, and I believe the NTSB is thinking along those lines now, it looked like the tail (horizontal stabilizer and vertical stabilizer) was not on the plane when it crashed. If that's the case, nobody could have calmly turned the plane. That can’t be - according an expert in this thread, the pilot could’ve just calmly turned the plane…
