Probably not. Because it’s not just the money. I think it incentivizes the wrong things and enables bad behaviors. People shouldn’t expect money from the government. They shouldn’t be dependent on the government. They shouldn’t vote one way so that they get
money from people who actually earned it.

Plus entitlements are what will bankrupt us as a country. They already represent the vast majority of spend. If we follow the democrat path of more entitlements and more government dependency, this will get much, much worse.

We should help those who truly cannot help themselves and be generous in doing so. We should offer a hand up to those who have fallen on hard times without creating permanent dependency. But we should not enable perfectly capable adults by financially supporting them on the backs of hardworking American families.

And specifically with SNAP, we shouldn’t enable the obesity epidemic by allowing people to use taxpayer money on soda, candy or other unhealthy foods. We should significantly restrict fund usage to highly nutritious foods.
I agree with you on the dependency. But I also think this country does a poor job of providing services to help people get on their feet. Public schools, especially in poor urban areas, are dreadful and fail the students. Education breaks the cycle IMO. Your future is highly dependent on what zip code you grow up in. The kid growing up in Orangeburg is kinda screwed.

I agree with you 100% and have not been able to figure out where the system breaks down....all of the teachers in the ailing schools have college degrees and attended the same schools as teachers in the non failing ones, the money to fund schools (cost per pupil) keeps going higher, the books are the same, and yet the results from some schools are abysmal.

We've tried bussing kids from failing to successful schools, we've tried throwing more money at the problem, the teacher's unions have been mollified and yet same results...Kid keep failing and we keep graduating student who can't read or do math...and it's just not elementary schools...loot at cal Berkeley where first year students in calculus can't do basic algebra......

The problem primarily lies with the raw material,... Too high a percentage of disinterested students, raised by disinterested parents, will drag any school system down to the point a majority of product produced is crap.

My two bus routes, the kids with solid parenting and housing are great kids and do very well too.

The others - apartment kids, split back and forth households kids, etc...generally struggle a lot more.

I personally don't believe we have a public school problem, we have a parenting/family life problem. And have for more than a generation now.

This,... marginal parents raising marginal kids.

Been saying this for a while. All these handouts have an impact on inflation. These folks aren’t earning anything, they’re being given everything. It’s the same old adage - if you go work for $100 you’ll be cognizant of how you spend it. When someone just hands you $100 for waking up in the morning, you’ll be more reckless with it. That compounds tremendously when there’s half the country surviving off of tax payer funded subsidies.

The zoo and museums have nothing to do with Nutrition

This is fraud!

Capitalism at its finest
More like fraud at it's finest. But no one is paying attention. That's why the unemployment rate is 4.1% and we have 14% of the population on "Nutritional" assistance. Still waiting on an explanation of how Zoo's are nutritional.

Gonna need a ruling on this.

SNAP is used to pay for entry to the zoo and other places.

This program is rife with fraud. Disgusting.

Doesn’t sound like it’s being used to pay for entry. Just more of a discounted entry if you are on SNAP.

More reason for strict work requirements.

You can’t mandate what a private company does, but I would also like to see discounted entry limited to children and significantly disabled for publicly funded venues.

Average per person is $177 per month. Good with reasonable amount of reform to prevent fraud, but still feel relevant. Drop in the bucket compared to the PPP Loan Forgiveness fraud for example.
Were you good with requiring part time work for able bodied people without dependents?

P.S. There's no doubt in my mind that PPP loans were abused just like most large government program. The difference is that PPP loans were a one time thing. Food stamps have been going on for more than 8 decades. And FWIW kids also get free school lunches. Some also get breakfast.

Wym. We all know that serious societies don’t require or encourage people to work. We want them getting 1/2 off the zoo admission so they can really waste their time and our money.

I am fine with reasonable requirements, but do wonder if the nuances to what is reasonable is worth the administrative oversight to enact it. Not really a strict "pushback" etc, but just an honest question.

What working age people go and spend time at the zoo without bringing their children? Are SNAP funds paying for the ticket or is the public-private partnership that owns the zoo offering a discount for EBT holders?

Of all the things to get upset about these days, people who qualify for SNAP being able to take their kids to zoo more affordably should be really low on your list.

Much prefer this to allowing coke and other sugary treats to be bought with SNAP (kids of families on SNAP also deserving treats is sometimes the argument I've seen).

I would agree with this argument if there were no other fraud.

As it is, it feels like death by a thousand cuts. Just a little fraud here. Just a little fraud there. Nothing to see here. That fraud is paid for by you and me. And then we get told we aren’t paying enough in taxes.

We get an honest system where the unemployment rate is much closer to the SNAP rate, then I’m all for your argument. As it is, I think the program is overrun with fraud. 14% !!!!!!! That’s a crazy high number.

Why is it my responsibility to work so people that don’t can go to the zoo? Serious question, I can get on with food staples but the zoo? That’s a want, not a need, if they wanna go enjoy the zoo they should pay like everyone else. Where do we draw the line, Six Flags, Carowinds?

Are you sure funds are being used? And it is not a zoo discount, likely that they can use for write offs?
