Year one the team quit several times. And was 10-8 in the SEC. Year one was no better than year 2 as a whole. He just lucked into a few wins. That team didn't play defense or rebound. And it's not Cal's fault.

This is all completely on Pope. This is a nice pick up. But we really haven't had a player problem under Pope. we have had a coaching problem. And an effort problem which is inexcusable. There will inevitably be effort problems this season and conditioning issues. Those are a Mark pope coaching staple.
You would have to be a complete Moron to think year 1 wasnt much better than year two and of course any good win was "luck".

He also got Hampton who was a 5 star and top 10 player when we got him....then, he got tanked in the rankings after. Who says they won't do it to Sherif also? I'm excited for this kid but there is no 5* monkey to get off the back here. He already did that before, even if the narrative got changed after we landed Hampton.

The stars beside the name aren't what matters. Production is. And I hope this kid is highly productive. Go Cats!

Hampton tanked because poor shooting.

This was @chroix first post:

“Now he's got the five star camel off his back! LFG!!!”

This was his second post:

“Bro. All anyone wants is to win. How hard is that to understand?”

Then he started to get hammered and called a Duke fan. Some of you overly positive fans (never thought I’d use that term but here we are) confuse the actual trolls, and there are many on here, with posters that are just fed up with where UK basketball is and there’s a big difference.
That crew has been waiting a lot of prospects to talk crap. Let em have it. We all happy. Let’s hope he can snag a couple more.

Now it’s time to get Benji reclassified
Kamagate??? Asking too much?
Kamagate would be a massive haul. We weren’t mentioned on his offer sheet last I checked on the announcement of his. Luc M’Bah A Moute is also his legal guardian, just like the Sheriff. Let’s hope Alfred can pull that off as well.

Mason Williams
Ryan Hampton
Alex Wilkins
Kam Williams
Brayden Hawthorne
Cherif Millogo

Still lots of HS recruiting and portal work to do, but that's a nice start
Third year Hawthorne could be really good. I like the base of that roster. I really think Wilkins will be a great player if he learns better shot taking. He is a scorer though.

If the team starts quitting games this year, there isn’t much for Pope to do to convince me he’s the right guy. It’s such a major problem in Pope’s ability as a coach that I’d consider it a fatal flaw. It cannot happen this year. But we’ll see how he performs against better competition.
Getting your a$$ kicked doesn’t mean you gave up, it means you got your a$$ kicked. That jackwagon thinks every time we lost = our guys gave up.

Yeah, we got our butts kicked in the sweet 16 and it looked bad, but Lamont Butler doesn’t give up. Carr doesn’t give up, Brea doesn’t throw in the towel, Amari Williams doesn't just quit. Sometimes you're the hammer and sometimes you're the nail.

That team was incredibly thin and beat up. Carr was playing with back spasms and Butler was playing with a tear in his shoulder. No Robinson. Yup, we lost, doesn't mean we quit.

I'd much rather lose to Tennessee in the sweet 16 than to Oakland and Saint Peters in round 1, that's for damn sure.

Are you serious? The Ohio State game? Alabama in the SEC tournament? Don’t get me started about the Sweet 16 game against Tennessee. And don’t use the injury excuse against Tennessee when we had multiple injuries in both wins against them, including on their own court.
So you think our guys quit?

You see the Gonzaga game last year?
We're not talking about last year. That team had lockeroom issues, was poorly constructed and somebody did something to wreck the team, I think Pope did a good job keeping the team from totally self destructing, but he owns the record.

But again, we're talking about the Butler/Carr/Brea/Amari/Oweh team. That team didn't quit.

As for the Gonzaga game, I thoroughly enjoyed beating them in their backyard 2 years ago, yes.

Crazy you prop up pope when he did a terrible job last year, blame it all on the players.

DA, MoD, JJ and BG. You can’t tell me that there wasn’t something going on behind the scene with these guys. Not sure where OO was in all this but he definitely quit in a few games.

Helps we hired his coach as an assistant!
I haven’t read all the posts, so maybe somebody already raised this point. But I can’t find any evidence that Aboya ever coached Millogo. Is it possible that things got confused due to the fact that Aboya is apparently friends with Millogo’s former coach and legal guardian Luc Mbah a Moute?
