My late Grandfather (my Dad's Dad) who often sat me on his knee when I was just a little tadpole and explained the world to me in ways I'll never forget...grew up in the segregated Jim Crow South. While he lived under "real" racist policies created by Southern Democrats (see my earlier post on the history of Democrat party here in the South) he didn't hate White people because he was a man of strong Faith. He also wasn't a man of "letters", while he never went to school...(he couldn't as a Black man in the segregated South)... he nevertheless taught himself to read and learned enough to set up and run his own general store in Faunsdale Alabama! He was smart, and more importantly wise beyond his peers and one of the things he told me about "braggards" or folks who toot their own horn a little too much I'll never forget.
He said, "Son let me tell 'ya somethin' 'bout them folks who's always just-a-talkin' 'bout how smart they is, or how much they say they know". Grandpa told me "It's the empty can, that makes the most noise!"
