A foul is a foul. Just because someone doesn't end up on the ground does it mean it's not a foul. Just means I might let play go for a couple more seconds to see if the player is able to fully recover and continue their possession/attack. The number of clumsy fouls I've called against a defender flailing at the ball and catching a girl in the shin guard (everyone can hear the crack) causing the attacker to lose the ball despite the attacker not going to ground is too many to count. Coaches and parents always yell about it.

Now, if the standard for what was called a foul was different for each team, then we can talk. Even being a referee, I hate the standard even seeming different. Coaches will always ***** about more fouls being called on their team, which is fine until they throw in the "why are we being penalized for being aggressive?" More aggressive teams, more physical teams will always have more fouls called against them. It's a byproduct of being more aggressive and more physical and yes there may be a big disparity in the number of fouls called between the two teams. I'm not picking on your team, they're literally committing more fouls.

I'm not a ref, so I'm going to defer to y'all on it. I know my take is just an opinion based in feelings and not really facts of the game. It does seem like such a shock though to play games in "the north" and have every little thing held against you. That's all it really is, I guess.

What happened with BA and Greenwood? Seems like the Greenwood love affair is over.
Several factors, but Greenwood is spinning it as they outgrew the complex 1. Recruiting Express players to build Academy. 2. A coach (J.G. Boulder FK) signing Greenwood Academy teams up through OSA claiming to be BASC team and using their assigner and game fields, OSA caught it and notified BASC, which can cost BASC Money. 3. Working in bad faith with BASC 4. club members wanting their fields they pay for and available for training.

We are headed to Ft Worth the 16th & 17th for friendlies against DKSC and Sting Black. We have Sporting Blue valley at home this Sunday. It will be interesting to see how those games compare to the HTX, BVB and Lou Fusz teams of GA. None will be easy.......
We play HTX 11am on Saturday and Challenge NL noon on Sunday

Question since I don't know much about Texas ECNL..... How many FC Dallas/Solar/Sting ECNL coaches have full time jobs and coach High School Teams along with their ECNL team's???

I can only speak for FC Dallas but that number would be zero. Coaching NL at FCD is those coaches full time jobs

Just FYI…in the Dallas metro if a coach coaches a player at the club level then he/she can’t play for that coach’s high school team.

I don't think that rule exists in OK but I don't know a ton of HS coaches who are also coaching the same age groups in club. Union's boys coach coached girls at the club level. Michael Umelo is coaching the boys team at Booker T, he was the girls coach, but he coaches u12s and below at Blitz. And in OK, if it's not something that is being taken advantage of in HS football then it's a non-issue to the OSSAA. I mean the OSSAA has a no-contact rule for HS coaches in every sport....it's 1 week around the 4th of July where HS coaches cannot coach their HS athletes in club anything and those HS athletes cannot use HS facilities that week, so no training at the facility on your own or having a club coach not affiliated with the HS training you at the HS facility. So basically it's a no-no for OSSAA if 2 out of the 3 exist and the reality is, they want the HS football teams to take a break from training in the summer. Not sure how many HS football coaches run 7 v 7 programs and utilize their HS facilities. Or the "voluntary" strength & conditioning programs.

I know this because it affects my daughter's swimming. Her Union HS swim coach is also the head coach for her club team, so that one week, my daughter was training with a different coach at the McClure Park pool as were several of her teammates that also will swim for Union. My understanding is the Jenks program skirts this rule as they have several Jenks Swim Club coaches to train the HS athletes but they do so in the Jenks pool and they claim that the pool is actually the Jenks Community Pool and Aquatic Center. Jenks PS doesn't actually own the pool facility and it was built with a community bond issue. We had a friend who swam for Jenks Swim Club and he said their HS coaches were there the entire dead week as were the HS swimmers in what is essentially the HS team's pool. I wonder if Allen Trimble (God rest his soul) taught them the finer points of skirting the OSSAA's rules

(Soccer) ossaa had a rule change last year, club coaches that coach HS can coach up to 5 players from club on current HS team.

The same club playing at the same complex was probably destined for failure. They are not on the same level of quality for the boys. One would always be jealous of the other.

Agree. You were also never going to prevent one club “recruiting” the best players from the other club. Just the nature of clubs and club coaches

Let's be clear. Both TSC and WSA outside of 1 or 2 teams won't compete in their leagues. (GA, NL, RL Texas, FRONTIER) The problem isn't getting better. Energy, FC Dallas, Sting and other ECNL clubs are the winners. Let's see how many teams finish with a winning league record in any of these 4 leagues. With Greenwood trying to start girls it will get even more diluted.

For Tulsa to compete at the highest level, there needs to be a single super top-tier club. Soccer has lots of egos, and it is hard for people to watch when they think they can do it better, etc It just always will be that way. Eventually, one will win out. It will just take longer. True Tulsans should not love travelling down to OKC to play soccer. It is wild to watch that crap go on.

WSA's facilities are utter and complete junk. It is why they are working out at Victory Christian. I don't know what the hell the ECNL was thinking, handing them. Hopefully, the new stuff at West Bank is a bit better. They shouldn't have to work out there. Don't they want them to be out there inhaling the refinery fumes? Or are the super great convenience stores with Habib and his pornos in the back to get food from?

Are they going to allow the Hispanic leagues out there still to keep lining Bush's pockets?

From the greenwood girls I have seen, it ain't pretty, but carry on. It may take a while.

Anyone playing / scrimmaging this weekend?

TSC is going to play friendlies against Sting black RL and then NL this weekend, apparently.
We are scrimmaging our 11 NL team, I think.

Not sure about anyone else.

We have scrimmages until BASC Labour Day. Then we bounce to KC the next weekend.

Do you think BASC will allow Greenwood to participate in their tournaments?

A) Will they take their cash

B) Worried about "recruitment"

C) Too butthurt to save face

D) Other

1) I’m not sure MLS Next academies can play in random tournaments

2) Why would an MLS Next academy play in a BASC tourney even if they could. The difference in quality would seem vast

The question is what age groups is Greenwood starting with? Do they have the traditional academy aged kids (U8-U12) before jumping to the MLS Next 11v11 platforms at U13? There are several different "new" academy leagues in the area for the U8-U12 groups. I think TSC and Blitz had one last year, BASC is starting one this year and it appears open to any academy level teams that want to join in. I did a couple games for the TSC/Blitz endeavor last year and it was designed to keep the teams playing local at that age and not having to travel to OKC regularly or Bentonville when they could get decent competition locally and not fall under the OSA league issues (OSA is a disaster when it comes to trying to get games scheduled and the team managers usually end up redoing complete schedules on their own b/c OSA ignores the blackout dates and tournament dates for in-state clubs).

As for the BASC tournament, my guess is Greenwood would probably prefer to play in the WSA Labor Day tournament as it is likely to bring a slightly higher competition level. That's if they want to stay locally. Midwest City also has a Labor Day tournament. And as a club I'd be shocked if their younger teams don't sign up for one of the local leagues. They're still kids and need to learn what goes in to preparing to play a game from hydration, making sure you have all your gear ready to go, showing up on time, learning how to properly warm-up. These are things older groups have been trained to do on a weekly basis. U8, U9- these are the kids that forget jerseys and cleats at home, don't drink water because it's "not that hot" etc. and playing games on a regular basis like this helps develop that routine. And yes, any of those leagues are going to take their money if they want to join that league.

I was mainly thinking of the Greenwood teams U13 and above. I do believe they have academy level teams. Not sure of their numbers in the lower ages. I could definitely see their academy level teams playing in local tourneys. WSA tourney probably be a better fit due to level of play.

I was referencing younglings.

Why are we having tournaments the same weekend? So dumb. I didn't even realise that was the case.

Some of WSA's young coaches and teams have bounced too.

BASC has a "tournament" that weekend to draw rec teams who want to play some games before their rec season starts. The WSA tournament and the other competitive platform tournaments are not appropriate levels for the majority of rec/rec+ teams out there. Their tournament will draw rec teams from the area and probably as far away as Joplin, MO. And it's just a 1 day deal and some teams will play 3 games in the day. WSA is a true competitive tournament comprised of about 70% WSA teams. You'll get some Blitz teams, maybe a few low level TSC teams, but also some of the ODA local teams, and they usually get some teams from TX (I am pretty sure there were a few from Amarillo and Wichita Falls last year). Also, there seem to be a good number of ESC and South Lakes teams that come up.

BASC does market that they have a "competitive" bracket as well but make no mistake the large majority of teams that will play in this will be BASC, Metro Tulsa, and some other local rec leagues. The majority of soccer being played in that tournament will be of really poor quality and make this referee want to gouge his eyes out :ROFLMAO:

I watched those DKSC 13s last weekend.

They're spicy.
We played them twice last year beating them in Super Copa and a draw in Round Rock Friendlies. It will be hot and very difficult. Wish we were at full strength. When we have Charlotte and Rachel up top it puts a lot of pressure on the other teams defense.

I ref’d a couple of friendlies yesterday. First was a U12 girls match between NEOFC and a WSA side. Decent game as these two sides looked like they had been together for a bit. I was surprised at the level of understanding of both sides regarding space and connection. NEOFC was a bit better in connecting their passes. I was surprised at the number of offside calls I made (being a solo center) because a couple of the girls just got lost. You could tell it’s was a friendly scrimmage because neither coach really lost his mind when talking to the girls. Game ended 2-2 because WSA had a girl who could have scored 10 goals if she wanted to but you could tell she was really trying to involve her teammates and pass the ball but anytime she made up her mind to go to goal with the ball, she did so with relative ease.

2nd game was a U16 between a WSA team and Jason Dobbins’s BA Express side. BA dominated this game. Really good at understanding space and filling space where it was vacated, movement without the ball, keeping possession and playing the way you’re facing when under pressure. They also had a 9 that if any of the big clubs really watched her play for a while, she’d be targeted by them to bring in. She could easily play ECNL or GA. Probably 5’11 ish, really fast, really good with the ball at her feet, and really strong/physical although you wouldn’t have guessed it with her frame. The WSA coach labeled her as “a problem” and I even told Jason after the game that she’s going to give opponents’ backlines fits. From what I was told her family spent some time in England when she was younger so she learned the game there playing on and against boys. One of the goals she scored was a cracker from about 20 yds out. She got the goal at MF with a defender on her back, she turned and basically edged in front of the defender got to the top of the box and absolutely cracked a shot top bins.

in other news, it was hot as hell yesterday, even in the AM. Glad that these two were friendlies and I could ease my way back into games after not having done any games since June.

and one last note: Tufts Blue, my son’s club team, is preseason ranked #7 by College Club Soccer. 1, 2, & 3 are BYU, Ohio State, and Georgia Tech.

Mixed result this weekend in DFW. Dominated a GA team (HTX) who was in the final four of the GA playoffs last year 3-0. That’s the good.

Struggled today against a mid level Texas league ECNL team (Challenge) but won 2-0. Would have been 1-0 but for an error by the Challenge CB. That’s the bad.

Coach did play the games like scrimmages and never put what I assume will be all the starters on the field at the same time. Still…today’s performance was poor regardless of the player combinations on the field. WSA and Energy up next weekend. It’s Cup play so I would expect more scrimmage like lineups.

lol….suppose that was a little harsh but…with the league bids to nationals being reduced from six to four teams they can’t afford to come out of the gate slow like last year. They are also now high school sophomores entering their college recruiting year. 80% of the girls on that roster have P4 expectations. To reach that goal they will need better effort than what I saw today.

Sitting in 96 degree heat watching average soccer on crappy fields would tend to make anyone a bit cranky btw :)

On a positive note, I did figure out the soccer balls

I just can't get judging it like a real game when the coach plays reserves, gives them team building instructions to play in ways that might handicap them, plays with different player combos at different positions, etc, etc. That doesn't always affect the result, just how they got there. This isn't a specific criticism towards you, it is a general criticism toward the madding crowd, which might include dlsnid.

I won't mention any scores because the event asked everyone not too. But we had a draw against DKSC ECNL 13's and came up short against Sting 12 RL who was a lot more physical than us. It was hot, no corner flags, 2 ref's trying to do middle and sidelines, we need to get healthy and in shape. 2 weeks until games count.

Where were these games played? If these games were sanctioned at all by ECNL or any other league, tournament, or club that fall under USYS or US Club, you are supposed to ever only have 1 whistle on the field. High school is different because they're always in cost savings mode so you might see only 2 officials at aJV or lower level, non-district match. And don't get me wrong, I really enjoy a 2 man system but there is too much in the middle of the field that gets missed as neither person is really close enough to the action there to be precise and there's always the wonderful yells of "that's not your call". And no corner flags? For an RL or GA match? Even if it's preseason that isn't acceptable. As a referee, not having corner flags is the absolute worst thing that can happen on a field. Heck, the other day out at River Parks, there was a puddle of standing water right at midfield and every time the ball hit it, it just stopped. How do you have a puddle of water on the field when it hadn't rained in a week and it's been near 100 all week? And heck there were no lines on either of the fields I worked on this week...but I had corner flags and can make a reasonable guess to the other lines based on the corner flags.

I heard about those games. A draw against that team is pretty great!

I'm curious about the 12s. I head they did okay against the RL team but haven't heard anything about the NL game.

I've also heard that Sting Black NL isn't that great this year, since they all went to Black.

So I have a question about what some of you have observed regarding the referees this past weekend and how different platforms are working in the new 8-second GK possession law. Did you see referees giving the visible countdown once 5 seconds were left? Did the referees pause their counts if an attacker shadowed or prevented the GK from a free release of the ball? How consistent were the referees in counting. Even though I was just doing friendlies this past weekend, I counted the 1st 3 seconds like I was counting the 5-second inbounds rule in basketball because I wanted it to be very intentional and visible to the coaches and players and then when 5 were left, going to the advised countdown of the hand over the head and counting down from 5. The coaches caught on right away and made sure to remind the GKs they only had 8 seconds to release the ball.

Just wondering what everyone has been seeing. I've got questions in to local assignors as to what the expectations of implementation are this season, especially early on.

I saw no counts this weekend in Fort Worth. However these were preseason games with only two referees. Officiating was rather lax. We had a girl who in any ECNL game would have received a yellow. Instead the ref sent her to the bench for the rest of the half with no card.

ECNL games this weekend. I will watch for the counts

No counts. Would have been difficult to give us a card since we were wearing practice jersey's with no numbers...... It was a large event. They had shuttles because parking was a long walk. I didn't see bathrooms other than Porta Potty. (Not good I hear). Joe Exotic is in the prison next to the complex........

They had the same preseason event last season at the same complex. Same no parking. Same smelly porta potties. Same crappy fields. Same no shade.
