it absolutely is, and it seems like when we talk about WSA NL right now, Tx conf being the toughest conf isn’t taken into account.
I've mentioned it numerous times. I think Tulsa people have brought it up a lot that if Tulsa area NL was in a different conference things would be different.. High School season has always been the reason why they haven't moved.

Allegedly…..a dad of a 2011 was buying things for the coach last season. The player wasn’t quite ECNL level. Likely some quid pro quo going on there to be on the NL squad. Fast forward to this year and the girl wasn’t offered a spot on the NL team. Dad gets pissed off and goes scorched earth exposing everything to OEFC. I will say parents have been buying coaches stuff since the beginning of time. It was certainly common during my time at TSC. A parent exposing the relationship to the board is a different matter
Yes... parents have been buying coaches stuff for a while. I know there was even a parent bragging about buying a coach a pair of expensive shoes. Yet nothing happened in that instance. So, this makes me think there might have been more to the story than just paying/bribing coaches. Or maybe, in this case it didn't work and hence the scorched earth tactics.

If only it was all merit based, but that's not reality. There always has been and always will be those looking for a leg up and money always talks.

That's wild to think someone would rat on themselves unless they have no desire to be back at the club, or care about how they look trying to bribe a coach.

Yes. JM is leaving Greenwood. Can’t say I’m shocked. JM is an elite trainer. His absence will be missed in the Tulsa soccer community. There haven’t been many local high level players in the last 5–10 years who haven’t trained with JM

seems weird that he would leave the club he started.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I know Kansas plays HS in the Fall. Texas HS soccer starts in January and Oklahoma starts in February. And let's be honest, the driver of when those seasons are placed in OK and TX is HS football.

And he's bailing pretty quick. Just had time for a cup of coffee. That's kind of lame for him to leave so quickly after starting the club. Guess he wasn't happy with the way things were going with his club and he decided to get out of dodge.

Greenwood is actually Michael Nsien’s club.

A little update on my son as he returned to Tufts over the weekend. He was part of the club group that conducted tryouts and as he was the oly GK in that group he designed the workout for the other GKs trying out. Saturday, there was only 1 other keeper there. There were 2 others who had GK experience but tried out on Saturday as field players. Since they were short on GK my son had to jump in goal to provide a little challenge for some 1 v 1 shooting drills. He was told to "don't get hurt". We got to watch on Saturday. Sunday and Monday we didn't as we were busy and my mom was with us when we were helping him move in. There were 50 kids trying out. The "A" team took 4 total players and one of them was the field player who will be the backup goalkeeper. My son will likely play as much as he wants this season and they jump into games right away this weekend. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Tufts has a great athletic complex. They have baseball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse and soccer all tucked into a complex. They just re-turfed the soccer/lacrosse field. The football stadium is in a different location on the other side of campus and behind it is a grass field that soccer and lacrosse use for training. All of the club teams at Tufts are given time to train and schedule games on these facilities (and Tufts has a ton of competitive club teams in just about every sport). It'd be like the club soccer team at TU getting to use Hardesty to train occasionally and play their games on (TU's club team trains and plays on the drainage ditch pitch which is still one of the nicer in the state). The grass field at Tufts is named "Kraft Field" because the money was donated by one of Robert Kraft's sons who is an alum. The club sports scene at Tufts is bigger than the Greek system there. Stat I saw was about 5-7% of Tufts 7000 students go Greek and maybe 20-25% play club sports.

I think the games this weekend are against Connecticut College and Clark University. We're trying to get my son to find a groupie to follow the team so they can liver stream the games on YouTube or something. Right now the only game that we know will be televised is "El Medfordo", the derby between the Tufts Blue (my son's squad) and Tufts Brown club teams. It will be on Tufts Athletics YouTube channel. This is October 3rd at 7:30pm (central).

One of the kids my son's group added is a PLAYER. Not sure why he isn't playing on a varsity roster somewhere other than maybe he wanted to go to Tufts for a specific program. This kid is big, fast, and can fire a shot faster than any kid I've seen before. There are kids with big powerful shots but they need a lot of time to get it off. This kid needs little space and little time and he's firing top bins.

I'll keep you all updated.

Greenwood is actually Michael Nsien’s club.

Greenwood is Michael Nsien and the Cobalt Sports Club. Neither of whom is in Tulsa. His son has also left Tulsa and is currently in Nashville with him. How much time can he actually devote to the club while he is in the MLS in Nashville? Not much.

Did JM get equity when Greenwood started? Who knows. Doubtful, it was much.

Many people left to go over there for JM from OKC, AR, etc. Now he decides to go overseas. That is fine for him, but it is no bueno for all the people who jumped ship for him. They have some really, really crap teams too at the academy level who think their kids are magically going to turn into superstars or who are going to be MLS Next players. In reality, they are fat, sit on their tushes, eat too many tacos and drink too many sugary drinks or who just plainly suck.

Less than a year in, and he jumps out. Maybe it was a really incredible opportunity, or maybe something bad happened. It just stinks considering the way they marketed themselves. When you offer scholarships to a large number of people, you have to wonder if they are financially solvent. It will be interesting to see how Colbalt leadership responds if they don't just start raising prices. Those guys probably want to get paid.

Why would the board allow the face of the club …the very person that 99% of families signed up to follow…to walk away? What does that say about the direction, planning, and priorities at the top?

How do you sell families on a vision of going “elite” and then watch the one person driving that vision exit? Where was the foresight? Where was the stability?

I mean, I don't want to put on the tin foil hat...but...maybe he didn't have a choice? No clue. I hope for the best for him, though.

"Let him" There is a pretty easy answer here, broski. There was no contract, so there is nothing to enforce, per se. If he wanted to walk, he could.

That’s exactly the point though—this isn’t about whether he could walk away, it’s about the lack of foresight in not having a contract in place in the first place. Without one, of course there’s nothing to enforce. But that decision (or oversight) is what left the door wide open for him to just walk away. With seemingly a lot invested seems like a big business miscalculation…but again not knowing the full story it’s hard to say.

I have no idea if JM was under contract or not. That said, I have never known a high level club soccer coach who wasn’t under contract. The nature of the job as well as the multiple ways they are compensated make contracts almost a necessity.

You have an employee who is unhappy. An employee who no longer wants to work for your organization. An employee who talks to your customers on a daily basis. Who here believes it’s a good idea to keep that person employed against their wishes? I want that person as far away from my customers as possible. Nothing good can come from allowing a disgruntled employee to continue to have access to your customers imo.

I don't know what happened, but that wouldn't be the 1st time JM had to leave a club not on his terms

My question is can it survive without JM? With practicing/playing @ Mohawk?? Without a strong girls side to supplement the boys?? How about the school?

The school will continue under a different coach.

Can Greenwood survive without JM? Good question. The leadership and backing of Cobalt helps. They still have playing at the highest youth level as a selling point. No clue as to the financials. Going to be an interesting year for sure.
