We got a 2 game losing streak Cohen is going to be real upset with them for letting this one be out of hand so early.

and since this was one of my ideas to make MSU baseball better- play USM in Pearl, I'm glad that this game was such a success so I don't lose my last shred of Internet cred. Not that I had anything to do with putting this game together, but I digress.

This was one of those games where our pitching depth hurt us. The only time I got pissed off was when USM stole a run on the delayed double steal of home play that Scott DeLoach royally screwed up. Our pitching is so bad, that it's almost hard to be pissed off at them because they're really getting the best out of what they've got, which unfortunately isn't much. Especially in the midweek. We may be one of those teams that beats a team like LSU two out of three and then loses to an Austin Peay in the midweek.

But if there are some silver linings, here they are:

1. Lane Burroughs recruited a lot of USM's players.

2. It's not a bad loss. USM is a good team, maybe one of the better teams that they've had in a few years, and this decade is their best era of baseball. USM will probably end up a 2 seed and no worse than a 3 seed depending on how they finish up this season in a Regional.

3. We were down 10-1 at one point, and we gave ourselves a chance to win the game and cut it to 10-7. Last year, I think we get blown out of the water and probably give up 17-20 runs and just quit. And of course to top it off, our HC gets run out of the coaches box by their evil fans. We didn't do that tonight. McInnis pitched really well the first time through the order, and was getting the outside corner, but what impressed me was we adjusted and started to either hit him hard or get a hit and we got him out of the game. We played good defense except for the one play I mentioned above. We didn't execute our pitches and had control issues all night long. We don't have a lot of talent, but we scrap, we don't quit, and we play hard. I can't really ask for much more, except maybe recuit better talent, but of course, it is year one. And I think that will come in time.

4. At the end of the game Rawdow struck out looking, but he immediately started yelling at the umpire what I think was "That's ********. That was outside." If that's not what he said, someone can correct me, I'm having eye issues myself. But my point is this- he cared that we lost. He cared that he didn't come through, and while the pitch may ver well have been outside, it was to close to take, and he should have protected the plate. He wanted to win. Last year, I didn't get that impression. That shows me that an attitude change is going on in the right direction

He hit .342 last year and .339 the year before that. Powers is hitting a cool .231 at short for us right now.

Im really not trying to be pessimistic, but we have to be the worst 12-6 team in the country.

I'm envisioning a stretch where, because of turrible pitching depth, we drop several in a row. If Cohen wins 27 to 29 I'll be pleasantly surprised.
