If you have never heard the context of the story ...

Cumberland had used pro baseball players from Nashville the year before to beat John Heisman's Georgia Tech baseball team. Heisman was pissed. The next year, Cumberland was struggling financially and dropped their football team. They were contracted to play Heisman's Georgia Tech team and had a substantial payout to Tech if they canceled the game.

The payout ended up being so bad that if Cumberland were to pay it, it would close the school. So Cumberland asked for volunteers from the general student body to get on a train to Atlanta and play Tech. Many of the volunteers had never played football before. The result was 222-0, significant because Cumberland's baseball team had won 22-0 the spring before.

Cumberland did not make a first down.
Cumberland had 15 turnovers.
Cumberland only had six plays that resulted in positive yardage, and fumbled on two of them.

Georgia Tech did not attempt a pass and scored on every possession. 32 touchdowns. The game was shortened to 12 minute quarters in the second half.

Ga Tech probably had to score on every touch in order to score that fast, no?

35 yards/carry. Holy shiite.

Saban's comment, "They ran through us like shiit through a goose" doesn't begin to touch it.

I would be more embarrassed about these than Cumberland's score, they had an excuse. Well, I guess to be fair, our excuse is in the first photo. I'd like to know who the Cobra is in the Maine photo..................
