Ok so I heard about this thru the grapevine so pardon the fuzzy reporting (also a friend of mine in StarkVegas mentioned this): Croom said he and his staff determined during the the off-season that we needed to become more explosive offensively (thanks Captain obvious).

Then Croom and Co. made these visits to other un-named schools to pick up new ideas and new schemes. I find it kind of bizarre that he does not want to mention which schools they went to. Anyways, after all this research they somehow determined that a 12 yard run is explosive and a 16 yard pass completion is explosive. What! Somebody please tell me this is crap and just rumor and not really serious.

Holy crap people! are you freaking kidding me? I do respect Croom all day long, but if this is true then we might need an intervention. This piss poor reasoning is why we are in the ofensive mess we are in today with WR's and QB's. Damn, can't these guys just open it up for just once? If true I guess this all comes back to beating the dead horse, the dead horse called the WC offense.

According to my calculations... those are two first downs... I'll take that all day long.

If you're picking up 12 and 16 on runs and passes often... Yeah, your offense is doing pretty damn good. It's not like they want to gain these yards once a game.

Tell you what. You go draw up some explosive plays and if and when we decide that 12 and 16 yards at a time are getting tiresome we will give you a call.

What in the hell are you talking about? Each of those equal first downs last time I checked. of course we would all love 95 yard gains on every play but....

12 and 16 would be great.

I was hoping for a little more yards than 12 or 16. First of all, when I think explosive I don't think of our offense at all or any of our players, except for back a few years ago with Jerious Norwood. Obviously to me, explosive means something like a 50 yd run or pass, something that gets the crowd yelling crazy. Also, when I think of explosive, I tend to think of schools like Texas Tech or West Virginia last year. And I'm holding out hope those were two of the un-named schools our staff visited, but I doubt it.

Maybe just maybe, Croom and Co. have got this WC offense improved. Hell, anything I guess is an improvement versus the last couple years.

50 yard plays are hard to come by so dont bank on many of those at all. But dont worry, its common to overreact about the negative on this board.

Texas Tech or West Virginia did not average anywhere near 12 yards per run or 16 yards per pass. I am guessing that unless you are just completely 17in stupid, that you are about 12-16 years old. Hell you can't even design a 12 yard run. A run is a run. Granted some runs are designed for needed short yardage, like the QB sneak, but Croom didn't pick up someone's play book flip to the 12 yard runs section and start copying plays.

Also, you do know when Carroll receives the snap that a triangle, circle, or square do not appear above the receivers heads....right???

that half our fans would kill over from heart attacks from the excitement of a 50 yd play and the other 25% would ***** about having to stand up because they can't see the damn play, because these young whipper snappers are standing in their way.

The coaches I work with would definitely consider a run of 12+ or a pass of 16+ explosive plays. Just as they have headings for runs of 1-3 yards, 4-6 yards, 7-11 yards...and for passes as well. What your friend "heard" was probably how they categorize plays using a video/statistical scouting software.

I don't think it's all that bizarre that Croom and Co. are trying to keep the schools that they visited in the offseason a secret. Especially if we're trying to "surprise" Auburn. Coming out and saying, well we went to West Virginia and Michigan would kind of tip our hand a little bit.
