This is why we dont compare Miss State basketball to all 335 teams or whatever it is. The Big boys rule the roost, despite a little mid-major intereference.

90% of all Sweet 16 appearances over the last 14 years have been made by the 73 BCS schools + 6 Mid-Major powerhouses.

Mid-Majors have made 45 total appearances in that time. Six teams comprise 22 of those appearances (~50%).

The other 23 appearances are divided up amongst 23 different teams with one each. Approx 10% of total, or 1.6/yr...

There are only ~80 other teams we should ever compare ourselves to...

This is my major problem with the selection committee in the first place.

Anytime a mid-major makes some noise (last years VCU, Butlers, George Masons), it seems like they feel the need to snub some of the bigger schools and let teams like this years IONA in. When, to me, every major conference bubble team beats IONA at a neutral site 95 percent of the time I think. But in reality, on a much, much larger scale, the mid-majors make it to the sweet 16 a VERY small percentage the time.
