hes one of my favorites as well. according to thephins.com, the fans seem to think the 5th wr spot is between tyms and bumphis (take that for what its worth...which might not be much). here are some stats from the preseason.
HOF game: (week 1 for the dolphins)
bumphis: 5 rec, 85 yards, 7 targets, was responsible for an int.
tyms: 2 rec, 15 yards, 3 targets
Week 1: (week 2)
bumphis: 2 rec, 26 yards, 2 targets
tyms: 2 rec, 34 yards, 5 targets (3 missed receptions)
Week 2: (week 3)
bumphis: 1 punt return, 4 yards (they essentially did nothing, but bumphis at least had yards to show and showed utility on sp teams....at least in some capacity.)
tyms: 0 rec, 0 yards, 1 target
Week 3: (week 4)
bumphis: 1 punt return, -3 yards
tyms: 3 rec, 27 yards, 3 targets (bumphis did nothing while tyms caught the 3 passes thrown his way)
i suppose an argument could be made for both guys, but imo, bumphis has caught all but 2 balls thrown at him....so im not sure what else he could have done otherwise. the glaring knock in bumphis is his aligator arming that pass in game one lead to a pick 6. tyms has not connected on 5 of 12 passes thrown his way (58% completion rate)....bumphis didnt connect on 2 of the 9 (77.78 % completion rate), plus he has utility on sp teams with a grand total of 1 yard on his 2 attempts.**
i know who i would pick, but i am biased. really hope he makes it. he needs to make an impact on sp teams vs the saints or get an opportunity to catch the ball. if he does neither, he might be in trouble.
