I was there. We intercepted them on their first drive. It was literally the ONLY thing we did right. They had more points than we had total yards. They had 45 points, we had 24 yards. This is why I get annoyed when people act like Lebby and Croom are similar. Lebby is Vince Lombardi combined with Nick Saban compared to Croom.

I was heading to Jackson that evening but wanted to watch the game on tv first. I made it to the end of the 1st quarter and hit the road. I listened on the radio and Jack at least made it entertaining.

Hard to believe he lasted 5 years. Wasn't he Coach of the Year in the SEC the prior season, for some unknown reason?

Will be the 17 year anniversary of wreck of the 17ing U.S.S. Slytanic. Never really a seaworthy vessel, it still somehow stayed afloat for 5 years before being ran ashore near Sardis Lake.

Sorry if Germans.

Croom was just ahead of his time. He said it took 7 years to learn his offense. In today's world with redshirts, injury redshirts, covid redshirts, and junior college years not counting, he would have had a great team.

Ha, 17 year anniversary is hilarious.

I was actually at the Arkansas game the weekend before- a bunch of us all went back for a long weekend of golf, drinking, and a fun win in football.
We were all semi-excited about the Egg Bowl after watching the Arkansas win. Ha, how misplaced that excitement was.

That 45-0 beatdown was crazy. Nutt's first game and Croom's last game.
I just looked at some stats-
- Combined 10 of 29 passing. 5/9 for Tyson Lee, with 1 interception. 3/12 for Wesley Carroll, with 1 interception. 2/8 for Chris Relf.
- The team ended with -64 yards rushing. Boobie Dixon led the way with 17 yards on 8 carries. Wesley Carroll had -59 yards on 7 'carries'.
- QBR was 10.4 for Lee, 10.8 for Relf, and .4 for Carroll.

Carroll was running for his life, only backwards.

Yep, he was. The reason was known- he 'turned around' the program and 'led' the team to a 4th place Divisional finish and bowl eligibility. It was the first bowl game since 2000.

Legitimately- he did win 2 games against ranged opponents, with one being Bama. And also won the Egg Bowl, then a Bowl game.
It was clearly a successful season.

When I look back on the Slytanic - it makes me think of all the self-sabotaging he did.

I believe a lot of these coaches, like any profession, COULD be successful if they find their lane and stick with their strengths. All he had to do was let go of the offense.......even actually let Woody run it......and he probably wins a good many more games. He needed to embrace recrootin and being the face of the program, and let his coaches actually coach. But he didn't....he wanted to choose his offense and be involved with it. That led to decisions like forcing Omarr Conner to be a drop back QB and gain 25 lbs.

The 2004 Florida through Arkansas stretch is a glimpse of what we could have been had he just let go. But he didn't, in 2006 he went right back to the stupidity and the 2008 3-2 game and the Egg Bowl were ultimately the culmination of Croom's 'plan'. 2007 was just an extremely lucky year. Caught a lot of teams at the right time and then had some lucky breaks (such as O going for it and JP Wilson gifting us that pick 6).

I was headed to Memphis that day, and caught a quarter at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Hacks Cross. First time I couldn't finish some mango habanero wings.

Man, those are some hilariously bad stats. What a CF that was…

This year will be my 49th consecutive Egg Bowl. To date that's the only one that I've left before the clock hit 0:00. We hit the gate with about 5 minutes left.

I remember the very obvious difference between the next year's team and that year's team. It was a lesson in what a well-coached team looks like and can do. It was also obvious in Tyson Lee's performance what good coaching can do. Aside from his one non-pitched ball in the LSU game, he did about as well as he could do. ........... Even with his non-successful term, I didn't dislike Croom, until I watched the 30-for-30 special. I can't think of a single good thing to say about his time at State now.

That is impressive. I was in the stadium at kickoff and back at my grandmothers in Jackson when it ended.
