I thought there were rules saying you have to at least attempt to get out of the way of the ball. Our batters obviously follow that rule. We could have stayed put a couple times and got hit.

California is probably the number one state in the union in every aspect, but that ump sucks.

And GDP, quality of life, health outcomes, natural resources, per capita income, and pretty much every other measure. It’s not close.

This thread is about being angry we lost a close game to a very good team.

If CA was so great FOR EVERYONE, people wouldn't be leaving in droves.

Start your own thread extolling California's virtues...before you lean over the plate, again.

No. You just can’t move into the ball. Your are free to stand still and get hit.

Just getting home from a post game dinner. Glad to hear that blue was really THAT bad today.

Our base running blunders and lack of luck aside, this ump was awful. We were 5 runs better than these flaggots, no matter what.

in college baseball what is the rule about a batter avoiding a pitch

+5
In college baseball (NCAA), a batter must make an honest attempt to avoid being hit by a pitch. If they intentionally lean into a pitch, do not attempt to get out of the way, or if the pitch is in the strike zone, no base is awarded; it is ruled a dead ball, and a strike or ball is added to the count.

Key NCAA Rules on Avoiding a Pitch (Rule 8-2d(1))
Attempt to Avoid: The batter is expected to move to avoid being hit.
No Base Awarded: If the umpire judges the batter did not make an attempt to avoid the ball, or intentionally leaned into it, they are not awarded first base.
Inside the Strike Zone: If the pitch is in the strike zone when it hits the batter, it is a strike, regardless of whether they tried to move.
Outside the Strike Zone: If the pitch is outside the strike zone and the batter does not attempt to avoid it, the ball is dead, but it is ruled a ball, not a hit-by-pitch.
Dead Ball: In cases where a batter is hit but no base is awarded (due to not avoiding), the ball is considered dead.

The rule is that you can’t move into the pitch. If you stand still and get hit, it’s a HBP.

Twice in B9 with the bases loaded, we had hitters actively move to avoid getting hit by a pitch. If either one takes it for the team (C’mon Dorn!) we win the game.

Tough way to lose, but “That’s baseball’…

California loses in cost of living, taxes, resources (oil, natural gas, water), and pretty much everything else. Sure, they have scenic views, but for what it costs, no one wants to lie there to see them.

The ground rule double in the bottom of the 9th was 100% “We are MState”

That said, we had runners on 2nd & 3rd with no outs and couldn’t score the winning run. We lost this game on our own.

We’ll learn from it and be better for it, though.

No one wants to live there except the nearly 40 million people who do. It's a great place. So is New York. So is Texas. In their own ways.
