Would be the most MSU thing of all time to announce a new coach while we're still playing...then we wind up winning the CWS and half the team leaves to follow Parker to his next destination.

I’d certainly be ok with us getting a big time coach and still making a CWS run. Half the roster is probably gonna leave anyway.

Why not? There's no rule against it. It's not like Parker is expecting the job and finding out he's not going to get it affects his performance.
No disrespect to our current team but if they wanna leave if we don’t hire Parker, let em leave. You aren’t hiring a new coach for next year, you’re hiring a new coach for the next 5-10 years.
I think I know what you mean (thinking long term tenure) but hope we're hiring a coach to win next year! Okay, give him 2 years to win...but definitely don't give him 5-10 years.
If former team is still playing, yes you don't announce. If former team is out then you announce so recruiting can begin which includes our own guys before lsu does (continues*). This among other reasons

I think we all saw how keeping the interim coach who had postseason success to keep the players & recruits works out. Like you say, hire the best coach. Recruits & players will work out fine if you hire the best coach.
My point was you don’t hire a guy just to retain someone like Ace Reese. You hire a guy that you think best gives you the chance to bring in multiple Ace Reese’s over a long period of time.
Maybe it’s me being a MSU fan 50 years but I’m really prepared for a hire we have never heard of …steel yourself
I think if selmon botches this one, there will be a lot of the fanbase who will be done with him for good. For that reason I am cautiously optimistic. He has to understand how important this hire is.

With that statement all you've done is left the door open for every baseball head and assistant coach in America to be named our coach before the world series, except maybe 8 head coaches going to the a world series and maybe some of their assistants......
Lets hope they don't make him sit in the back of the room.
