all the loud music, all the time ? I can see before the game, between quarters, etc. but before kickoffs, after plays, before plays, jeeze all mighty it is overkill. Who does one complain to about the over use of this loud bombastic music ?

I take it you've never been to an NFL game. If it's too loud you can always turn down your hearing aids.
Yeah I have been to NFL games, this is all part of the hip hop culture. Don't have hearing aids, but like the old softball umpire, turn yours down so you can see better !

Commonwealth is a joke when it comes to atmosphere....

I kind of agree with you about atmosphere at our games. But, maybe it has something to do with how we UK fans have become so numb from so many bad seasons and with so little hope currently? I remember a pretty loud stadium for some games when Brooks was here and having some decent success. We actually had something to get excited about.

Wow. Not sure what to say.

First, the music selection has been awful this year.

Secondly, the music isn't anywhere load enough. Go to a football game anywhere where the majority of the fans actually care and you will feel darn near deaf before you leave.

I absolutely hate the rapcrap and rock played at both UK and UL. WTF, it's a college football game not a campus bar. I complained in writing to the UL ticket office and got a letter back saying; times have changed. It got so bad I just cancelled my season tickets and go to a few games a year. I simply cannot listen to that garbage blaring in my ears for 3 plus hours. rant over.

Go to a game at any other real football school and it's the same. It's good UK is finally attempting to make a major college football atmosphere and learning how to properly use the video boards and sound systems to help establish that.

Went to Auburn yesterday and something they did that I really liked was a "Tigers in the nfl" montage between a quarter where they showed highlights from their nfl guys games the previous week while the stats were being read off.

Ohio State - Michigan - Michigan State to name 3 still let the Band ACTUALLY PLAY during the game, without the rapcrap/rock blaring through the PA system. It "ain't" college football w/o the Band. Yep, Old School and proud of it.

Our band stinks. But I agree, places with awesome bands are cool. However, if our band stinks I think we should play music for the kids not for us.

i think we should try to use bizzaro music. we've tried rap, rock, country, pop, everything. so why not play some Chopin, Beethoven, then move to some Joplin, and then when we got on the ropes we start playing old wwf wrestler themes. If nothing else they'd be doing a sports center piece on us. and we all know, any pub is good pub

I am new and read this post. I watched the Nebraska game last night. The noise level was amazing but it was the CROWD noise. They don't seem to need the piped in crap. Tennessee is the same way. The crowd is intense and football savvy. They know when to amp up the noise level. I find audience participation much more fitting a college atmosphere than all the artificial noise pumped in by a PA system. Go Cats!

my man, UT and Nebraska are 2 of the 5-7 best programs ever. they have sold out or near sell outs every game. we have 20,000 there and 15k of them got free tickets. big difference in how much noise they will be making. when we are good or at least when we aren't down right embarrassing our crowd cheers with the best of them

I suggest you stop going to d1 college games and definitely don't go to NFL games. The music isn't for you. It's for the players/students/recruits. The people who matter lol

I have no problem with loud rap or rock that is good. The problem I encountered in the first game was that the music selection just plain sucked. I keep up to speed with most of the current music and what they were playing that game was a lame selection of rock/rap crap.

Right just forget the over 40-50 crowd who fund the damn program thru season ticket sales. fyi- I can still go to D1 games and NOT hear that, many many examples. Why have a band if they are not permitted to play?

The band plays many times throughout the game. But rap and rock are what these kids listen to. And like it or not, this is their time. They should play the music that appeals to the student athletes. That is one of the many problems with our program. Too many involved that think it is about them. It is about the players on the field, not you or anyone else who doesn't like the music. Play what the kids want to ear. Whatever keeps them excited, play it as long as it still promotes a positive atmosphere.

We ain't get much bang for our buck if it is for the student athletes at UK, the last Oh, 2 or 3 decades !

Why do some posters HAVE to support, argue and justify EVERY single decision made by the someone within the athletic department (AD, coach, UKAA, etc)?

There is a difference in supporting the school and the programs, and blind faith homerism on every topic.

Yeah, cater to the 400-500, that actually enjoy that. But the 50k plus fans funding the program don't matter right?

Check this out from an Alabama home game a couple of years ago.

What you leave out is that is only played a few times a game. Also, that song is tradition of the state that every fan knows. It was a tradition started a long time ago and has continued because their fans support everything Alabama does. Had it been ICE baby that they started a long time ago, then they would still be doing it because it was tradition.

Growing up in Alabama, we played that song at every party, dance, football game, basketball game, wedding, whatever. That song was a must.

UK, not much tradition on football atmosphere. We still yell at people for standing and cheering.

Kentucky has shown the "players in the NFL" for at least a few years now. It's not exactly like Auburn's (and maybe not as good), but they show the NFL players on the video board before the game. Cobb is always last and gets the loudest cheers. Seeing some highlights from their games would be pretty cool to add.

I wasn't sure. I'm an out of state-er I'm getting to attend my first game this coming week since I was a student before the renovations. Wish the product was better but still pretty excited to see the new digs.

Where you sit can make a difference, and I have to say I don't really care for loud music blaring on bad speakers. I suggest you get yourself some noise cancelling (or at least isolating) earbuds and a radio, and listen to the broadcast on 98.1.

In all seriousness, I love country music (but not bro country, which is a blight on all civilization), but I understand why they don't really play it at football games.
