2 things about the Saints Game...

Sorry if this is repetitive, but

1. I really don't think Hartley's kicks are getting enough credit. The first one and third one were so huge when you look at time, score, and most importantly, where the Colts would've taken over had he missed. A miss on the first one and the colts take over on their own 36 up 10-0. Miss the third one and the Colts take over on 37. Huge.

2. I think the goal line stand at the end of the first half worked in the Saints favor in the end.

Going into the postseason, I was ready for Carney to come back. Hartley definitely earned his paycheck.

It took a possession away from Manning. They had to play conservative so close to their endzone. If they kick the field goal and kick off, he would have gotten the ball on their 30 with 2 minutes left, you could almost guarantee 3 more on the board for the Colts, thereby negating the Saints field goal.

Anyone else hear the announces say last night that only one other kicker has made 2 FGs over 40 yards in a Super Bowl. Hard to believe that in 43 Super Bowls there hadn't been more kickers with 2 40+ yard FGs in a game.

I don't like Simms as a commentator but I have to defend him on the comment. I remembered the onsides kick in the Pitt/Dallas game but could not recall if it occurred in the 3rd or 4th qtr. (It was the 4th.) Simms had worked that game and probably remembered the same onsides kick.

Another thing that stood out to me is that the Colts only got the ball 8 times. They said in the broadcast that the average team will have at least 12 offensive possessions in a game. So basically you are taking away 1/3 of the Colts possessions by just keeping the Saints O on the field as much as they did. With the Colts that's huge, because they seem to get better as the game goes on and Manning is able to completely understand teams' defensive schemes.

Probably 30-40 years from now when nobody remembers them and the story could be re-told with some Hollywood dramatic license. This team of rejects, plus one underwhelming Reggie Bush, blazed a trail through the NFL and defeated all the best QBs of the day in its run through the playoffs.

These are ingredients for a good movie. Although, the story is too fresh and widely known to have much value today.

Wow, I didn't realize that.

Normally a team with a strong running game is the kind of team that eats clock. I guess when your QB is completing 82% you can still eat clock in the passing game. They also did it with mostly short and medium pass plays that stayed in bounds.
