It's easy to keep increasing enrollment when you let anybody who breathes into the university.

</div>Of course, they are counting a record 2,626 students at UMC, as well as 1,994 at their Southaven, Tupelo, Booneville, and Grenada campuses. State counts only Starkville and around 700 hundred in Meridian.<div>

The residents are paid employees of the hospital and not students in the med school, but Ole Miss counts them anyway.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px; "></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="border-collapse: collapse; font-family: Arial; font-size: 13px; line-height: 17px; -webkit-border-horizontal-spacing: 2px; -webkit-border-vertical-spacing: 2px; ">

I graduated with undergrad degree from OM in Oxford and am currently an M2 In med school at Ummc... I am a still a university of miss student and proud of it! We should be counted in this data no matter if msu fans are upset about it or not... As far as residents being paid and still counted as students ? Should they not be? They are in fact students still... Is it not exactly the same as a msu phd engineering student being paid to teach labs and stuff ? Just because it is in Jackson doesnt mean Ummc shouldnt be counted. Its part OF ole miss and Im proud OF it! So What IF its not in Oxford it cant be! A medical center has to be in Jackson, the states only big city... I mean they cant just place states only level 1 trauma center in Oxford for cryng out loud... As far as people like x-ray technicians they are still students... You people Will do whatever it takes to belittle the fact that you are no longer the states largest university.. You Have been passed get over it!!!

1) I see basic competence in the English language is no longer required for entry into medical school.<div>
</div><div>2) Medical residents and fellows are far more comparable to postgraduate Ph.D. researchers than they are to Ph.D. students. Post-MD medical program folks are, yes, in training--but they are hospital/university staff.</div><div>
</div><div>3) The point remains that State has more students at its main campus--the locus of student and alumni loyalty and identity. </div>

he's obviously so fanatical about his bears that he's found time to peruse SPS while he's a med student. You know, med students have so much time on their hands for things like perusing SPS and all...<div>#dontflagshipsneedflags?</div>

Ask any of us in the lawsuit regarding the income taxes. Arguement has been settled. Sorry.

The University of Mississippi - Jackson is not Ole Miss, the Rebels or the Black Bears. It is a Univeristy of Mississippi Medical Center where Bear fans are the minority. Count it if you like. Southern Miss doesn't corner the market for fuzzy counting. Maybe Alabama fans can count UAB as well. Do Mississippi State students still dominate (in number and in class rank) the medical school?

My understanding of the lawsuit was that residentsWERE considered primarily as students thus the refund of the FICA money. I'm notaware of an income tax issue.

Used to be. Refunds were made for taxes collected in the past...But..."effective April 1, 2005, wages paid to medical residents will be subject to the FICA tax. (Interestingly, on March 2, 2010, the IRS announced that it would grant FICA tax refunds for all claims filed for tax periods before April 1, 2005, when the prior regulations were in place."

I graduated from Med school in 2008, and never once considered myself an Ole Miss student. It is just the only Med school in the state. And I am now a Resident at the University of Kentucky Medical center. I also don't consider myself a 'student' here. I am hospital staff. It says so on my badge. To count residents toward enrollment is lame. That isn't saying that UK doesn't do it too, they may, I'm not sure.
