That is a tough argument for me to make with PC there. '02 in 5A out of 8 no multiplier yet, no Blue, playing Pontiac in a title game. I think Sneffner says his 01 is his best. they did have a ton of close games. I personally think PC 94 is their best but just misses the Edgy cut.

94 was the best PC team, no doubt.

Random undefeated candidates chronologically
96 MC
97 Lincoln Way
98 MC/WWS
99 JC/Nap C
03 Com
04 JC
05 LWE
06 WWS
08 Maine S
09 Maine S

that is a pretty outstanding list right there. i know you like JCA 04 to JCA 99. both of those two were monsters.

in fact, i'm making this the definitive list.

2014 Naz would beat a few of those teams.

you are out of your mind.

Last season, the toughest team Naz played was JCA. JCA had a shot in the waning minutes to win the game.

Last season's JCA team would have got clocked by every team on that list. I don't like admitting it, but it's true.

Naz was a top team last year and was very very good. But on a list of the best teams in the last 20 years, no shot.

Maybe 200 yards in penalties had something to do with it? Touchdowns called back, missed FG's. That game shouldn't have been close but Nazareth had yet to truly discover its identity, JCA had a decided mental advantage with it being Nazareth homecoming and the pounding they gave Naz the year before. If you saw the machine that was Nazareth in the playoffs then your opinion would hold more merit. One game against a good opponent when Naz was at its worst doesn't define them, all that matters is they won the game. Almost all the teams above played a close game against an inferior opponent.

A one dimensional running team like a few listed above wouldn't have gotten it done against Naz. Far too athletic and explosive.

That WWS 98 would be my pick.

As for the discussion of whether a team with a loss could be the top I think so, if they didnt lose to an IL team. If they did lose to an IL team, how was the schedule? I dont think we can count out the cumulative effect of an extremely tough schedule, but this would be a harder sell.

I know. I forgot that penalties are not part of the game.

I saw who naz was in the playoffs, and it was impressive.

Who are the one dimensional teams that would not have beaten Naz?

TPF,

Which team on this list do you see the 2014 Naz team beating?
Neither that JCA or CoM team threw enough to beat Naz last year. Those that don't think Naz was the best team in state are crazy, they beat Provi handily and I saw Providence up close 3 times. This is an opinion thread and Naz is actually way underrated.

Beat Provi handily? I disagree with that statement.

Naz 2014 would be in the top 10, but #1 would have to go to either Mt. Carmel or WWS.

Cary Grove would of beat Naz

lol way too pasty. Saw both teams play. Naz wins that game, because of the matchups. Cary does not win one matchup on paper.

As for Naz being the greatest.. lets slow our roll. Top 10 yes. Not saying they played an easy schedule. But they never played an EQUALLY great team with a "staple win."

Coach what matchup do you see Cary winning?

#1 ESL 08
#2 WWS 98
#3 Caramel 03
#4 JCA 07
#5 WWS 06

I'll make it clear how I do my rankings, In a hypothetical vacuum, both teams at their very very best on a neutral sight if they played each other 100 times. Who comes out on top most overall? Think of it like a computer simulation (similar to Madden predictions).

I feel many are arguing who "deserves" to be called the best team instead of who actually was the best team. Like a 1 loss team doesn't "deserve" to be in consideration because it doesn't complete a resume of perfect dominance.

But then I ask you do you consider the 85 bears the greatest team of all time? Or are they out of the discussion because of that 1 loss?

I understand the discussion against Naz being #1 All-Edgytime. However, IMO last year's Naz beats Stevenson based on what I saw against Lake Forest and the from what LF coaches and parents had to say. I also believe that I would have loved to have seen a Provindence / Nazareth match up. That would have been a great game.

I'm thinking you don't understand. Do you need clarification? This thread is about the greatest team in the last 20 years in Illinois high school football. Create a thread about best team last year if it moves you. Oddly enough, high school football did exist prior to 2014.

MS, I do completly understand. There was a question posed for an opinion. By definition an opinion cannot be wrong unless based on flawed facts. Your disagreement with my opinion does not invalidate it. In only proves that you continue to be contrarian just to stir things up rather than accepting that there are those in the world that don't agree with you. My first sentence "I understand the discussion against Naz being #1 All-Edgytime." points out that I do indeed understand the question and that I respect the other opinions presented.

Then you are clearly derailing, so start another thread.

I think he was just responding to Bronco Mans claim that they weren't even the best team in 2014. I'll defer derailment blame on a Bronco.

I'll live with that. We get blamed for pretty much everything, so all good.

Are we debating the best team or protecting the "brand of IL football" by eliminating the Flyers because they soiled the sheets in their opener? By season's end, that was a fierce force to contend with that I've not seen matched. That is what the question was: who was the baddest on the block?

No question that ESL team was a force. They were loaded pretty much everywhere. But I think having the one loss takes them out of consideration. Also they racked up a ton of penalties that I think most teams on this list would capitalize on.

Wow...so ESL had two close games, 11 blow outs, and lost 1 game to an 8-4 team that plays in an elite state for high school football.
LOL.
Illinois is maybe a Top 10 state.
I would fathom to say a top tier 8-4 team in Ohio is probably better than a lot of top tier 10-2 teams in Illinois.
But some here sound like they think a 14-0 Class 1A team could beat 5-5 Class 7A teams based on that logic.
East St. Louis was the best team we've seen in terms of overall speed, size, depth.
It's not even close.

Well it is week 1, so much for the Naz/Montini cease fire...load up the guns boys, we're going to war! It would be a lot more fun though to keep lobbing salvos towards the boards biggest private school detractor as a united group though!

Don't neglect the skimming work on those pools.

I hope you guys know this is just ball busting. If we need to turn guns on somebody in the public sector, I'm in.

MCHS,

Likewise love to bust and be busted, call me contrarian if you like but that's what this is all about anyway. On the other hand I'm personally not going to let up on the $1000 bet until it's paid or he admits he's wrong. He also seems to have a deep hate streak towards the private school sector, so salvos from multiple directions would be nice!
