I look at it in the converse. Even though a lot of these athletes are going 1 and done, that's still more talent you're seeing playing college ball that you wouldn't have seen otherwise. Because of this trend, you do have smaller schools that are able to compete with power houses some times. You are right that it may *look* unappealing, but I don't think the quality of the games have honestly taken a hit.

not that I am complaining, by any means, because I like the format they suggest a lot. It would certainly level the playing field, much like basketball has, and let some of the smaller conferences compete for the title, as well. The way it is set up now, a committee (a group of a few people) gets to pick who plays in a single game for a national title. Why not let the teams playing the game decide? It makes way too much sense.

I guess you could claim the voters are a committee, and to an extent that's right. In football, I think polls are almost always going to be the best way to go, because the sample size is too small otherwise.

Still, I'd like to see a 16 team playoff, but not a Top 16 teams playoff. The auto-bids are the reason why seeding matters in the NCAA tourney. If the NCAA tourney was the top 64 teams, the difference between a 1 seed and a 6 seed wouldn't be that much. It would be pretty similar actually. That's why I like the 16 team format.

Yes, it would add a total of 4 games for 2 teams, but we've already got some teams playing 14 games. I don't think 17 games for two teams is too unrealistic. They play 16 in the NFL, plus pre-season games and playoff games.

There is no chance for human interaction after the poll ballots have come out and the computer calculations have been completed.

that while a couple cinderellas in the Final 4 may cost the networks a few viewers for the final games, those same cinderella possibilities are exactly what make the first four rounds so exciting and thus, extremely valuable.
