Is there any chance that Cam Newton goes pro after this season ?

Are we a contender for the West next season?

Cam Newton will go to wherever there's money, if they'll pay him.

No, we won't contend for the West. LSU, Bama, and Auburn will all be better than us still. We lose Chris White, Pernell McPhee, Derek Sherrod, KJ Wright, Mo Langston, both of our kickers (though this may be a good thing), Hanrahan, and Leon Berry (unless he gets a medical reshirt - which I have no clue how it works). I know we've got some pretty good players behind all of those guys... but you can't really place a value on experience and we'll lose a lot of it after this year. Some teams can absorb losing 3 or 4 NFL caliber guys... I'm not so sure MSU is one of those teams.

Hopefully we'll be going to our second straight bowl game at the end of the 2011 season though.

Newton goes pro. He's pretty much the farthest thing from an NFL style QB right now at Auburn. If there are questions about Tebow making the switch, I have to think those same issues are there with Newton.

Even if he did go pro, he'll CERTAINLY be behind

1) Luck - Stanford
2) Locker - Washington
3) Ponder - FSU
4) Mallet - Ark
5) Delvin - Deleware

Also consider Terrell Pryor and Nathan Endlre from Idaho.

Newton will not go pro and he'll have a tough time getting dafted even after next year.

more in '11 to get him ready for the draft and that will work out even less successfully than the Tebow experiment.

If Malzahn goes, I seriously can see Newton going pro. There is too much uncertainty when a new offensive coach comes in. Remember the guy who was QB for Louisville when Petrino left for the Falcons?

Are we a contender next year? More so than we are/were this year, but I would put our chances around 5% at most of winning the west. Again, Malzahn leaving would help us against Auburn next year and we will have Bama, UM, and LSU at home. The east schedule is manageable with SC at home and UGA and KY away (and those two away games are winnable).

i think we're definitely a contender next year. we'll be a good team, lots of returning players, and our schedule is perfect for it.

sec schedule next year is:

lsu at home
bama at home
ole miss at home
south carolina at home
@auburn
@ark
@georgia
@kentucky

all of our away games are winnable. auburn will be the hardest. they're good, but we can beat them.

we should beat ole miss. we need to win 2 of 3 with sc, bama, lsu. i think that's possible. i'd give us a 15 to 1 shot to pull it off but that's a lot better than we've had. the leading contenders are auburn, lsu, bama. bama has to play at the swamp and they lose mcelroy and ingram. i really have no idea what lsu will do.

Depasquale has an extra year of eligibility I think. Can't remember the details, but there wasa Veazy article talking about how everybody thought Depasquale was ajunior last year when he was actually a sophomore eligibility wise.

I seriously doubt we will actually win the West, but we can compete. We've lost a lot of good players each of the past two years, and yet we keep getting better. As long as Mullen is around, we will continue to improve.
Coming into this year, I thought we would only be able to win 5 games, 6 at the most. We've already got 4. 5 is pretty much a lock, and 7 is definitely doable. If we can possibly win 8 games this year, I will come into next season ready to fight for the SEC title.

Easiest game on that slate is Ole Miss.

Bama, SCand LSU at home? UGA, AU, and Ark all on the road.

At UK should be a win since they won't have Cobb, but that is a brutal SEC schedule.

yeah, no game is a gimme, but if we're going to do it we need to have the lsu, bama, sc games at home. we could go 2-6 just as easily as we could go 6-2. if we had lsu, bama, sc on the road we're looking at 4-4 and virtually no chance of contending

and maybe he will figure that out. He is an exceptionally talented athlete, but he won't ever be an NFL QB because he can't throw for squat. He does have a strong arm, but that does you no good if you aren't accurate. And his deep throws are just moon balls thrown up for grabs.

He needs to just accept that fact and move on. I think he's fast enough to be a halfback, but he could also play a slot position. Just get him the ball and some open space and see if anyone can hang on to him.

Big, fast, elusive quarterback who really can't throw worth a crap. Passing stats usually look decent due to a combo of good receivers and coverage breakdowns due to the threat of the QB taking off and running.

I would expect Newton to end up a lot like Jones in the NFL as well, i.e. with powdery residue on his air intakes.

was a much better passer than Newton. The spread really skews alot of passer's stats these days. I think Tim Tebow has the highest completion % in SEC history. Consider than, then the fact that accuracy was a big knock knock on Tebow being an NFL QB.

I think Newton is headed for TE in the NFL, if he finds a place at all. I dont think there will be much debate.

<p itxtvisited="1">And fortunately for Bulldawg Nation, DePasquale will also be around for two seasons, including 2010. For much of last year and in spring practice, the media mistakingly referred to DePasquale as one of two senior placekickers on the team (Brauchle is a senior). However, he quickly noted he is just a junior and has two years of eligibility remaining.</p><p itxtvisited="1">"I have this season and next season," said DePasquale. "The media guides here listed me as a senior but I am a junior. I still have two good years left and I want to make them two long years."</p>

Agree, unless an NFL team hires a spread guru (which might not ever happen), then Newton's not gonna be a hot commodity. You kinda need to be able to throw the ball from the pocket to play QB in the NFL, and he hasn't shown that he can do that whatsoever (and don't compare his pocket passing to Tebow's, it's not close)

He takes off and runs on half of the pass plays they call now, and the NFL doesn't have much film on him sitting in the pocket, going through an NFL type progression and throwing the ball over the middle or into tight coverage.
