BM says he's a "standout" combo guard. Stans and Co. have bit quite the busy recruiters since Kirby left, and "Boy Wonder" had their post season review. I'm quite impressed to be honest, BUT he still has to prove that he can coach this talent and demand respect and discipline from it. By the way, anyone from LA seen the kid play?

And I agree Fish. This does not make me feel confident about Pollard. Seems like we already have this exact player committed in Craig Sword.

We have now signed Gardner, Smith, Sword, Thomas and this guy in consecutive years, and Steele is only a sophomore. Where the 17 are the post players? We have lacked depth in the post for several years now, and it seems that trend shall continue. Sidney may not be on the team this season, much less next year, Moultrie is gone if he has a good year, and Lewis is a junior. Stans, you need some post players, not more guards.

just tossing it out there, but landing a bunch of quality post guys isn't easy. first of all, there are far far less of them than there are perimeter players. second of all, the handful that are quality have offers from ever decent program in the country.

i agree we need to find some post guys. however, i fully recognize it's not as simple as it sounds.

we also have another lewis type player coming in named johnson that is listed at 6 7. we also have a 6 10 guy coming from LA named long and we have the ware kid from starkville. so that is four players over 6 6 not to mention hood at 6 8 and and thomas at 6 5. its not like it will be when we had jarvis and four guys under 6 2. I have no problem with bringing in another guard. We actually have more length coming in as freshman and committed seniors than we have in a long time.

Is this commit for real? Link ?

We really need Pollard and or Howard. Both are legit small forwards, Howard is Pollard without all the recuriting hype.
I just don't see the scholarship space for all these guards for 2012.
We can start several SF, but not SG or PG's.

I think Howard wants to play immediately and that may mean somewhere other than MSU. Pollard is definitely an important piece to our future....Pollard is the preferable choice if we have that luxury.

seriously recruiting Pollard so its Pollard or bust. No doubt Pollard is THE missing piece to this class now.

The team will be losing 3 after this year - Bost, Bryant,Luczak(I think is on scholarship???). I'm assuming the Euro is taking Riek's open scholly this year.

Yet, Gray makes the 4th commitment for next year already. Even if we assume that Sidney's done after this year, that still means that our recruiting would essentially be finished and Sidney not being here is still just an educated guess no matter how likely it is. Stans has never been one of those coaches that loads up on commitments and then just hopes that there will be a spot for them. If he oversigns, you can bet that there is going to be some news coming out soon to connect the dots.

Am I missing something?

I don't think Luczak is on scholarship, we only get 13. We should have 5 spots open for the 2012 class, more if Stans boots another player..

I just think we should be after both Pollard and Howard, you have to go after the top talent Mississippi.
Hopefully Pollard will come to STATE and all is good..

If he was as good as the hype, he'd be in the NBA already. He didn't show anything special at UTEP. Unless he's a completely different player now, I expect to see a good SEC player but not an NBA draft pick (and certainly not a 1st round pick). I hope I'm wrong, but I think he's overrated right now.

We know that Bost and Bryant will be out of eligibility, but Sidney and Moultrie would only make 4. Also, I still find it hard to believe that Stans would get two commitments this early by just assuming that those two will be NBA bound after this season. On top of that, the fact that we still need another post player from this year's class in the worst way, I have a bad feeling that something is up.

We have 13 on scholarship.
Bost, Bryant, RSS, Moultrie, Hood, Steele, Gardner, Smith, Smith, Long, Lewis, Johnson, and new Euro guy..

So we have to lose a player besides the RSS and Moultrie to have a spot for Pollard. I don't see Hood as a one and done guy, so someone has to "transfer" after this year.
I thought we over-signed this past year, but we signed Johnson to get Sword and I still can't figure out why we signed Gray yesterday..
He must be a late bloomer and/or a hidden recruit found by the coaching staff, but he makes 3 guards in the 2012 class.
No national recongnition on any scouting sites, but that doesn't mean he can't ball, maybe he has been hanging with the RSS and Lucas in Houston..hmmm

Live and Die by the RSS and Moultrie this year and the back to the 4 guard gimmick in 2012 and living and dying by the 3 ball..

I have seen the young man play ball. He scored 51 in a game his sophomore year in high school. He was a starter as a freshman for a powerhouse basketball program in Louisiana before going to Texas. I have seen Chris Jackson play in high school. Gray reminds me of him. He has the quickest release of anyone and can jump. He will break your ankles with his quick ball handling skills. He is prob 6' but his skills make up for lack of height.
