I am not sure how this works at UNL but I have seen many colleges where getting all of the classes at the right time for athletes is not always easy. Not using that as an excuse but athletes do have specific scheduling challenges at times.

Football players have by far the easiest path to a degree of all college athletes. They play 12 or 13 games max during the time they are attending school. They travel for, at most, 7 of those. Most all of the games are on a Saturday, so they should miss at the most 7 days of class. When you compare that to a baseball or basketball student athlete, who is missing more than double that amount of class, when you count mid week games and series that start on Fridays, it isn't even close.
