who should we be optimistic about here? Hurt and Carey seem on the rise for UK so should we get excited about them or are they too far gone? Wiseman, Maxey heavy leans? And what’s up with Lewis and Antoine?

You think Ashton Hagans could reclassify? Breaking news...

Pretty much everybody knows that at this point. I at least feel fairly confident that both Hagans and Maxey reclassify to UK's 2018 class. With as much as Cal has been recruiting Maxey, Carey, and Wiseman (as of tomorrow, he will have visited all 3 players twice in about a week's time), I wouldn't be at all shocked if we had ~3 guys reclassify and go to UK for 2018.

Who really knows though. That said, Cal likely won't recruit another player currently in the 2018 class, which is why he's hot on the trail for 2019, and there's so much talk of reclassifying to 2018.

No point in even discussing the recruitment of more 2018 players, imo. Who we have from that class is all that we're going to have from 2018.

Once again, ppl can focus on more than one thing at a time. We can talk about the 2018 class AND the 2019 class. It won’t make your brain explode.

I like Hurt’s game. Reminds me of TJ Leaf that went to UCLA. Carey is better than Wiseman right now but Wiseman has the higher upside. Would love to have Maxey but prefer him in the 2019 class rather than on next years team.

I definitely prefer Maxey on the 2018 team. He would be the best scorer on the team from day 1. Can fill it up from all 3 levels. Would be great to have that kind of talent in a year where we could likely return a whole lot of talented experience. Never know when that kind of opportunity would present itself again, so try to get an experienced super-team going while the opportunity is there.

Recruiting info a year in advance is a vague topic. They reclass and come here is a different thing, but Trae young was a UK lock for about a year and things changed. I don't put much stock into things a year out anymore

i get that recruiting info that far out is subject to change but it doesn’t hurt any less to talk about it. That’s what these message boards are for. To discuss topics with other fans. No harm in discussing 2019 kids.

I just prefer a sophomore Quade over freshman Maxey. I’m assuming that Quade is gone if Maxey commits and reclasses. Also, I don’t think scoring from any level will be an issue next year. Assuming we get PJ, Vandy back, I don’t know that next years team will need much of anything. They should be deep, talented, have some good expierence, great at rebounding and can score from everywhere.

Agree with everything here. Which is rare because I’m usually a pretty disagreeable bastard.

We can't talk recruiting for 2019 because that means there is recruiting for 2019 which means running off our experienced players!

Okay, okay...if you want to talk recruiting you can pick out one guy for 2020 because Wenyon will be gone. Hopefully, that won't be screwed up and we bring in a four year Kentucky boy that can shoooooot.

That's like saying you would prefer to have Ryan Harrow over John Wall. I don't get it....

Good god no it isn't..... You joking??? Quade is a way better than Harrow & Maxey ain't no where near John Wall..Seriously, is this sarcasm??

How is Quade way better than Harrow? They both sucked it up... and how can you say Maxey isn't in the same tier Wall is. He's a junior in HS. To put it nicely, Quade was absolutely terrible this year, especially against Kansas State. Harrow and Green are about the same talent and Maxey is head and shoulders above both them right now as a junior in HS.

No, just no to all that...Wall was a once every 5-10 yr PG out of high school and Maxey isnt even in the top 10 of his class. Harrow was a Junior when he was at UK and Quade was a true freshman. Quade averaged less minutes, and shot a better % from 2pt, 3pt & FT..that was all while battling thru a back injury and an eye injury.

That shows your BB IQ because you are going by rankings and not an eye test. Maxey is right there with Wall on talent. Sorry if you can't see that. And you might want to go back and watch some videos of Harrow out of hs. He's way better than Quade in every facet of the game.

I'm going to guess that with as many players as we'll have on our roster this season, and with the uncertainty about who will stay and who will go, (history tells us that they'll almost all leave) several kids will pull the trigger for other schools throughout the process, and we'll be scrambling next spring to figure out who we're getting.

I hope that we get either Wiseman or Carey, and I hope that Maxey stays 2019 and Quade sticks at UK.

If, we can make those things happen and keep Jeffries, we'll be in good shape next year regardless of what else happens.

Because it doesn’t fit the narrative of them wanting a team full of juniors and seniors. Quade being sophomore will lead to him being a junior. These people claiming he’s going to be good next year are only wanting us to copy Villanova

Awwwww the ol "you don't know basketball" excuse...... this lets me FURTHER know that your argument is dumb. Facts don't back up your argument so its the ol "you just don't see they game as well as me" or "your basketball IQ is to low to understand the game like me".... hahahah NO...Im not going to argue with you anymore cause whats the point....

All of us have opinions...

This is just basketball discussion for our own entertainment.

It's ridiculous to question someone else's intelligence over basketball.

Sometimes we forget that we're discussing 18 yr old kids running around in shorts while throwing a leather ball through an iron hoop.

Maxey is an excellent scorer, he most definitley is not at a John Wall level.

Many did not get to experience the full Ryan Harrow.

He has much better handles and vision then Green and a better scorer off the bounce.

That said he was not coachable.

He left NC State in a huff and actually wanted to leave UK before the 2013 season started, his dad was a good excuse, but the fact is he simply could not handle Cal's coaching.

Ryan needed to be coddled. Not happening at UK with Cal.

Harrow a

Harrow averaged 9.9 ppg and 2.8 assists and Green averaged 9.7 ppg and 2.7 assists. How please explain how Quade is so much better?
The post you made after this one mocked someone’s basketball IQ for looking at numbers instead of the eye test. Quade was no John Wall but he was easily better (as a freshman) than Harrow (as a 3rd year sophomore). And Maxey is very good, but no, he’s not the best point guard prospect of the decade like Wall was.

I don’t want to copy Villanova but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that our best years had decent returning talent. People forget that non-superstar freshmen actually improve sometimes. I guess a freshman Darius Miller who only averaged 5 points as a freshman couldn’t be a valuable contributor as a senior?

There’s a middle ground of wanting the best possible talent and having veteran leadership. I think having that combination is the best chance Cal has for his next title and players like Quade leaving doesn’t help. That’s why I’d prefer to have Maxey headline the 19 class than join Quickley, Hagan, and (hopefully) Green in 18.

He was talking about rankings which is "experts" opinion, stats are how they actually perform. 2 totally different things. Quade isn't better than Harrow, you've lost your mind!

The shot selection in our final game might still be stuck in our collective craw, but to some extent I agree with you.

No he’s not. Maxey will be ranked in the 20’s if he reclassified, Wall was #1. See a difference? He’s not even the best pg in his class, Hagans is.
