Even though it is getting harder and harder to make all the weeknight basketball games due to work (including Fridays), I have been thinking about getting Rutgers Wrestling season tickets next year. Just a few questions for those in the know, do you expect matches for the 2019-20 season to be mostly weekends, mostly Monday-Friday, or split even ? The prices seemed reasonable for this year. Do you expect prices to stay the same for next season? Is the view still pretty good from the first ten rows in the 200 level? With over 3,000 season ticket holders this year and only 8,000 seats, do you think all Rutgers season ticket holders for next season will be able to purchase tickets for the Big Ten Tournament being held at Rutgers or will it be a situation where the longer term holders and large donors will get a chance to buy additionals before new season ticket holders? Thanks for any comments.

Friday/Sunday is the most typical arrangement for the conference schedule weekends. Most matches will fall on those days or on Saturday.

Unknown, but I doubt they will go up much. It will likely be incremental.

YES!

Unknown, but the 8,000 or so available will be allocated among the schools. If they do it evenly, and they sell out, that is less than 600 per school. Im sure many schools will not sell their allotment, and that possibly aditional seats will go to Rutgers from the outset, but expect there to be a priority point system where some season holders do not get them.

Thanks Cabbage.-- I wonder when was the last time they held it at a venue as small as ours. I am surprised some of the schools or the conference didn't request we hold it at Newark.

The prudential center would be great holding larger numbers.

I don't get how The RAC will have 8.000 seats with 4 mats down ( not possible without pushing back sections 108,109 and 110 if thats possibe). This is not going to be a good venue for this tournament plain and simple. It's just way too small and it will be a sell out. It's not a venue that you would want to spend a 4 hour session in and nowhere to walk around. It's going to be a bad look for RU. JMO

Only in the sense that we won’t fill demand. I was on the floor for the EIWA at the RAC and thought we did a phenomenal job hosting. This is a key moment for RU to host this event at our home base. I think there is more upside especially if we have the new practice facility to show off during the broadcast.

We'll have 3 mats and it'll be fine. Look at Midlands at NW, you can fit 3 mats mostly over the basketball court:

I could be wrong, but I think when RU hosted the EIWA tournament in 2013 it was a 3 mat format, and the EIWA might have had as many or more than 14 teams in the Big10.

Did you not read my post ;)

Yes we hosted and did a kick *** job.

The Uber drivers should do well, driving the fans to the bars and restaurants and back between sessions, lol.
Actually RU should run buses continually back and forth from the RAC to downtown NB for the Tournament. Or do they do that already?
The Brick House Tavern on Stelton Rd and the other restaurants and bars in that area should do well also. They might be even closer than downtown NB.

Would they make the cars clear the parking lots between sessions? Probably not, I would think.

Yes I read it, and enjoyed it, lol. But Your post did not specify how many mats we used. Someone brought up that question in another post, as 4 mats might require removing some bleachers.
PS- I remember one of the days or sessions we had a snowfall, which might have cut down a little attendance for one of the sessions. Man, that seems like yesterday, but it was 6 years ago.

Got you.

3 mats will work out well. Good stuff with that link. Always enjoyed watching Dake take the mat.

Comparing the EIWA tournament to the B1G 10 tournament is useless. The EIWA was great at the RAC because there were probably 3,000 fans that weekend. Plenty of room to walk around and stretch out during the long sessions. The B1G is a totally different fanbase and the RAC will be sold out to the rafters. If you only have 3 mats you add at least an hour to sessions 1 and 2. If you have 200 or 300 level tickets your going to be miserable sitting on a bleacher seat that long. It's just a bad job by the B1G having the conference tournament here.
WTF? Stay home then. Sheesh, some fan...

I'm a Huge fan of Rutgers and D1 Wrestling but I don't get how you question that when I think it's wrong the B1G wants to have such a prestigious Tournament and have so many fans miss this because of a small venue. The B1G pays for the womens basketball Tournament yearly held at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and you can hear crickets there. The B1G Wrestling Tournament won't be in NJ for another 14 years (thats a fact) and would sell out the 18.000 seat Prudential Center easily next year. Why not have it at the best venue possible and not shut out over 10.000 local Wrestling fans. I'll be there regardless but have been to numerous National Wrestling Tournaments and I just think the B1G with all its $$$ can do better for the Wrestling Fan!
Yeah, some fan that you keep trashing us by complaining that we're hosting the B1G wrestling tourney when Northwestern (14 times, including 2011 & 2001) and tOSU (2015 & 2004) both hosted in smaller arenas. The B1G likes to give every school the opportunity to host, which is the right thing to do. Deal with it

The RAC is the home of Rutgers wrestling... not The Rock.

The B1G has loved pumping the fact that we average 5K fans and 3K season tickets with a brand new practice facility across the way. I get it that there is lost revenue and a lot of wrestling fans will be shut out. So what. We need to push the RU brand and the B1G wants to showcase this venue of rabid fans. I’m all for it. The key is that us RU fans show up in droves and represent.

Rutgers University Athletics will be hosting the Big Ten Wrestling Championships in March of 2020. Season ticket holders will have an opportunity to request tickets for this highly anticipated event. All season ticket holders renewed by the June 25th deadline will receive information on how to request tickets for this event. In order to receive information on the claim process, a season ticket holder must be either renewed in full or on the payment plan by June 25th.

Is the final day of N.J. States and the first day of B1G tournament the same saturday? If so, this may affect ticket sales, especially from N.J. fans. $$$$

The Big 10 tournament has always been surprisingly sparsely attended anyway. Even when the Sqwawkers host it here in Iowa, it never comes close to selling out, while, ironically, one of their big duals often come close to selling out. o_O

The Rac not as big as Carver and it will sell out fast....RU will have over 3,000 season ticket holders(some who will not be able to get a ticket) and it is driving distance for PSU fans....this will be a tuff ticket to get.

B1G schools = HUGE NYC alumni bases. I fully expect most of not ALL schools you sell out their allotments.

Many of the Big Ten schools don't put 600 at their home matches. Just off the top of my head MSU, Maryland, Indiana, Purdue, NW, and Illinois will not sell 600 tickets.

Agree those schools will not get an allotment that size(if they do they will not sell 600). But I do think it will sell out without a problem. Alot of RU fans went to the NCAA's in Pittsburgh last year because they were able to drive, not so this year. Some fans will treat the Big10's as their NCAA "trip"

Especially with the NCAAs in a football stadium and this event in a smaller basketball arena. $$$$

Maybe, maybe not, but what they sell at their home matches has little to do with their alumni bases in this area and the tournament. They’ll be marketing hard directly at those groups. Also, my guess, it won’t be an even split between the schools. I would think that feelers will be put out ahead of time and they’ll take it from there.

Also - if an Illinois, for example, has a great regular season then they’re going to sell more.

Final X was an enormous success selling out a full floor, 100 level and most of the 200 level. Even after the fan base knew Taylor and Dake were out, most people still showed.

I recall the EIWA tournament as I was on the floor and the turnout was better than I expected at the time... mind you this is pre-B1G entrance, 3000K season tickets and recent AA and national championship success. I think we will do fine with attendance.

If we win in the priority points sweeps stakes, Our season ticket group is going to rent a huge RV and spend the breaks relaxing in that. If you're a renewing season ticket holder I have to believe you've got a good shot of getting in. That is if Hobbs doesn't decide to give a couple hundred away to friends and boosters who don't attend matches. Then I'm probably screwed.

Wrestling isn't big at Illinois, Michigan St., Purdue, Maryland, Northwestern, Indiana and Wisconsin. When you can't even get a hundred fans to home matches, your not selling out your allotment to the B1G tournament. Alumni in the area aren't going to care about these teams. They only jump on the tickets where they're good or the big two Football and basketball. And even in football you can see that interest has fallen off except for the schools which are good.

The crowd will be heavily Rutgers and PSU fans followed by Iowa, tOSU and UM, and then everyone else will be very small.
At least 75% of the allotment in the RAC will be RU, PSU and Iowa fans. Minnesota, OSU and Michigan might draw a bit as well. Not expecting much at all from the rest.

If the dates do not conflict with the NJ State Championships in Atlantic City, there will be a big demand from the entire wrestling community in NJ. The stubhub resale values are going to be considerable.

You folks know it as well as anyone, but take it from a guy who once attended every UNI home dual with no more than 100 people in the seats, never overlook the draw that success and/or a magnetic coach can bring to attendance.

I'll just speak for Wisconsin, but they are poised to be a legitimate team very quickly, and I'll assure you that they attendance numbers will go up tremendously.

States will take some people away from attending, but this will be a primo ticket with many NJ fans in the seats IMO.

I don't recall much of a Whisky contingent of fans during their visit to the RAC in January and I'm thinking attendance this far away from home won't go up tremendously for the B1Gs. Similarly, with Rutgers 2X NC success this year, I still see a good drop off in RU fan attendance for the 2020 NCAAs due to the longer travel.
