At 7,876 yards it’s the longest in PGA championship history. Going to be brutal with that wind.

You may disagree, but playing from the back tees, playing it as it lies, putting everything out, playing in that wind ... think it would be difficult for anybody reading this thread to break 100 on this course this weekend. These pros are incredibly good compared to even good golfers that knock it around during the week.

When I shot in the 90’s in the wind I was playing 2 tee boxes up from the tips. Remember many times looking back at those tees and thinking how anyone could even come close to shooting Par from them in the wind. Good reminder just how good these guys are.

I love the wind is going to change on Sunday and most guys will have never seen that. I’ll say this, it will be very hard to stop the ball on 17 green blowing that way.

Is their actual score or what they would say they shot? 🙈🙉🙊

Is there a legitimate reason for someone like John Daly to actually play the tournament? I like John and think he brought something to the game in his hey day, but at this point he’s really not even competitive. Any thoughts?

I got “arrested” on that island as a 17-year old. Island police picked us up on a huge beer bust. They made me pour out 7 cases a beer. I almost cried over the beer.

Yes...I understand but at what point do you decline?
The real answer to that (and all other PGA events) should have been when he decided he was too fat to walk the course and needed a cart. John is far and away my least favorite golfer ever and in the top 10 of all athletes.

I am watching the featured group of Koepka, McIlroy and Justin Thomas and JT is about to have a Happy Gilmore type meltdown. He is playing like a drunk dude in a best ball club scramble. 🤣

Phil Mickelson was completely done after 6 holes. He had nothing. I saw him miss a 30ft chip 20ft wide. 4 bogies in his first 6 holes. Worst chip I've ever seen from him. Now he rallies back to -2 and still has 1 hole to play?

Spieth was snake bit all day. Lip out putts. Missed opportunities and terrible breaks like the ball rolling off the back of the greens. You have to think completing that grand slam is weighing on every shot he hits.

Nope. Too much to deal with on the course to ever think about that. If he gets to the weekend in contention then the demons come out.

I'd agree except he line up on a two foot putt and just about missed it. 360 lip in. He is pressing and Jordan's face shows it. He's one of my favorite golfers and I don't think the course is bothering him anywhere near as much as his head is. He's just now getting back from having noggin' problems since '15.

Everyone is pressing /grinding out there. Different opinions but he’s had too much in front of him on day one, to be thinking about winning the grand slam.

My pick, Bryson, said this was the hardest course on the PGA tour for him so I know what you're saying.

Wide fairways are irrelevant when the course is running hot. Phil hit 6/14, and many drives from others players hit in the middle and ended up in the first cut.
Wide fairways are never irrelevant, especially for a guy who needs a few extra yards to get it into the short grass.

Warning. This cawoodsct guy will disagree with you for the rest of your life in every thread. I did in the Bengals thread on football board and he's been on a mission ever since.

Will say again do not put much stock into who is leading after today if the winds change or pick up some over the weekend. That said, I would take Brooks all day everyday but not sold his knees do not wear down by Sunday. Man, if he can stay healthy he has several more majors in him. Guy just turns into the Hulk at majors.

Range finders ok at PGA Championship. WTH?
It's not really any different than the yardage books they use or the green books to read the greens. The only difference is some shots they stand to calculate a shot that is out of the fairway and it can take several minutes instead of ranging it in a few seconds.

Agree. The level of players on tour are not like us regular amateurs who get a quick number and go after it. Pros and their caddies take alot of variables into account that a range finder does not calculate. Do not know how the pace of play has been this week but I bet it's about the same or slightly less. JMO, range finders are not much of a game changer at the pro level.
