157 3rd Place Match:
#10 seed Brady Berge vs. #2 seed Kaleb Young (Iowa) (I'll use KY, or Kaleb, or Young)

Can Berge defeat Young twice in the same tournament?

Per 1
Berge finally shoots about halfway thru, KY sprawls, nothing. collar ties, collar ties, collar ties. End

Per 2
Berge takes bottom. He's up and out in 6 sec, 1-0. Young sort of shoots, nothing. More collar ties. Berge in on a double to a single, they scramble as Young locks on to an ankle, stalemate with 5 sec left. End. RT @ 6 sec for Young

Per 3
Young takes bottom. Young out quickly (like 3 sec), 1-1. KY shoots, Berge sprawls, nothing. KY shoots again, and Berge sprawls. Berge tried to work under the arms but nothing there. 1 min left. Berge nearly gets an ankle pick, but KY kicks away. End

SV
KY sort of shoots but doesn't. Berge in on a single and gets the TD!!!

A 3-1 DEC, and Brady Berge is your 2022 B1G 157 3rd Place Finisher
Huge!

Big win for Berge, and NW held serve at in the title bout over Lewan. Penn State still needs a bit more to go its way (namely finals wins) but so far, so good.

Ultimately to win it, PSU needed to control what they could, and win in the Finals. Especially, H2H vs Michigan.

If Marinelli wins this, and the boys win at 174 & 184, it won't matter what Dean does, and as long as Kerk wins or keeps it close, I think we're in.

174 Championship:
#1 seed Carter Starocci vs. #2 seed Logan Massa (Michigan)

Scary match. Massa looked good in his semi.

Per 1
Quickly stopped for PD. Massa sort of shoot, and CStar kind reaches; nothing for either. CStar reaches, Massa tries to counter, but they go OOB with 1:58 left. Stalemate with 1:39 left. CStar in on a low single on a counter, and gets the TD on the edge, 2-0. OOB with 1:12 left. Massa to his feet, tripped OOB with 1:00 left. Caution on Massa for starting early. Massa sort of spins then to his feet, then returned. Massa works to a 4-pt stance, and then on the edge Massa is awarded an esc. CS challenges. I'd have to see a replay. In real time, it din't look like an esc. I think they were OOB before the esc. Call is overturned on review. Massa to his feet on the restart, then he's out,2-1, and OOB with 20 sec. Massa reaches, nothing. End. RT @ 51 sec for CStar

Per 2
CStar takes bottom. He's to his feet, but they are OOB with 1:50 left. Caution on Massa (I think). CStar to his feet, returned, to his feet again, returned, to his feet again, returned, then OOB with 1:18 left. CStar works up but is walked OOB with 1:03 left. CStar works up, a stall warning on Massa, then he cuts CStar, 3-1. 30 sec left. Massa shots, CStar tries a counter, nothing. Stalemate with 8 sec left. End. RT @ 32 sec for Massa

Per 3
Massa takes bottom. Caution on Massa (his 2nd -- the other one I thought was on him was for a whistle on another mat). Massa sits out, but CStar stays with him. Massa to his feet, but they are OOB with 1:36 left. Massa to his feet, returned, and they are OOB with 1:13 left. Massa sits out, CStar stays with him,Massa to his feet, returned. Massa to his feet again, and a stall call on CStar. OOB with 42 sec. RT @ 44 sec for CStar. Massa to his feet, returned, to his feet again, then OOB with 28 sec. RT @ 58 sec. Massa quickly to his feet, but they are OOB with 23 sec, and RT is at 1:03 for CStar. Caution (3rd) on Massa, so it's 4-1. End. A rideout. With 1:27 in RT, CStar gets a riding point.

CStar is your 174 B1G Champion with a 5-1 DEC

184 Championship:
#1 seed Aaron Brooks vs. #2 seed Myles Amine (Michigan)

Another tough match. Also huge in the team race.

Amine's only loss this season is to AB. AB has had 16 matches this year, and 12 of them were to ranked wrestlers, and he won them all.

Per 1
Amine tries an early inside trip but AB with good balance and avoids it. AB reaches for an ankle, nothing. AB with a nice move, Amine grabs an ankle and they scramble, danger call on Amine but he clears his back, they continue to scramble and AB gets the TD, 2-0. OOB with 50 sec left. Amine quickly to his feet and he's out, 2-1. They are on the edge. Stalemate with 31 sec left. Stalemate with 11 sec. End. RT @ 33 sec for AB

Per 2
AB takes bottom. He works up, and he's out in 6 sec, 3-1. AB with a double but Amine sprawls, nothing. Stall warning on Amine. Brooks reached for an ankle, nothing. Stalemate at 45 sec left. Amine shoots a double, AB sprawls, Amine grabbed the uniform (not called), and a stalemate with 21 sec left. Stoppage at 6 sec for interlocking fingers. End. RT @ 27 sec for AB

Per 3
Amine takes bottom. Amine up quickly, and he's out, 3-2. RT @ 33 sec so it's not a factor. AB in on a single, Amine grabs an ankle and they scramble. AB has the better position, but Amine has a tight hold on the ankle, and a stalemate with 1:08 left. Amine with a head outside single, AB sprawls, and a stalemate with 52 sec. Amine looks exhausted. Stall warning on AB. Amine in on a double and gets the TD, 3-4. AB is out with 4 sec left, 4-4. Wow

SV
Amine shots, nothing. Amine gets an ankle and gets the TD. Damn

4-6 DEC for Myles Amine

Really a great match

initially I thought Aaron bumped heads with Amine but after replay it didn't appear that way. But the reaction he showed looked like he had either a head butt (he didn't) or just a total instantaneous mental hiccup. Let's get 'em in two weeks, Aaron!

Byers says PSU needs a win from Dean and from Kerk, and for one of them to score a bonus point, as well as Brucki to lose to Warner, for PSU to be able to win the team title.

Strange to be saying this, but after Brooks was the aggressor, Amine was the guy that took the shot. Oh well. On to Nationals.

Per Jeff Byers: PSU needs Iowa's Warner to beat Michigan's Brucki in the 197 third place match. It also then needs wins by Max Dean in 197 final and Greg Kerkvliet in 285 third-place match. And, beyond all that, it needs one of those two to win by bonus points if Warner wins.

197 Championship:
#2 seed Max Dean vs. #1 seed Eric Schultz (Nebraska)

Per 1
Lot of hand fighting and head control, but no shots thru 1 min. No shots thru 2 min, but a lot of battling. Schutlz sort of shoots, is blocked and Dean snaps the head down and spins around behind for the TD, 2-0. They are OOB with 16 sec left. Schultz sits out, and works out with 5 sec left, 2-1. End. RT @ 28 sec (I think)

Per 2
Schultz takes bottom. He sits out (seems to like that), but Dean stays with him. Schultz to his feet, returned, they are along the edge, and OOB with 1:09 left. Schultz sits out again, but Dean keeping the hips in control. Schultz to his feet, Dean has him dancing, which gets a stall call on Dean, then OOB with 21 sec. Schultz out quickly on the restart, 2-2. End. RT @ 2:03 for Dean

Per 3
Dean takes bottom. Dean to his feet, a dn he's out, 3-2. RT @ 1:55 for Dean. A lot of battling for head control. RT is locked. 1 min left. Schultz shots a single, Dean sprawls, nothing. Schultz shoots, then Dean shoots, nothing. 30 sec left. Schultz sort of shots, but there's the buzzer. End 1:55 in RT gives Dean a riding point.

Max Dean is your 197 B1G Champion with a 4-2 DEC
