However, it is the preseason and everyone in theory is a national championship contender. Fans can always dream and rationalize why they'll win 10+ games in July. Doesn't make them unrealistic, just fans.
History is the best indicator of the future. In a 12 game season WVU usually wins 7.
Too many games against teams WVU could have problems with.

So if WVU can win all the games they should 5-0 and then go 3-4 in those 7 they are an 8-4 team

They have done so since they began playing football. In 11 game seasons there were still 7 win seasons.
I have predicted 6-6 at worst 7-5 at best. 8-4 is a real possibility but they must go 3-0 in OOC to have that chance. So I don't get your bs about overhyping comments. I see recruiting improvements never before seen here and have hope for the future. You only have visions of the past.
Since 1902 when they began playing 9 or games a season WVU has had 15 seasons of 7 wins, 19 seasons of 8 wins, 9 seasons of 9 wins, 4 seasons with 10 wins and 5 seasons of 11 wins.
Those 52 seasons listed average out to 7.2 wins a year.
Those other 76 reasons since they began football really dips that average down to around 6 a year or less.
16-0 or else you are loser in real life that accepts mediocrity! Don't ask me how to get 16 wins in a season, asking logistical questions is what real life losers do while accepting mediocrity. Those of us who know football and are not losers in real life accepting mediocrity will totally have the reasonable desire to fire Neal Brown immediately after the first loss. Next coach then better go 16-0 like us real life winners who do not accept mediocrity! Don't give me any excuses about a new coach or new scheme like some loser in real life that accepts mediocrity. I guess they should expect 16-0 after the start of 12 team playoffs begin. But none of that will happen until WVU becomes #1 team in recruiting every season as Bruno says.
Per Bruno every recruit must be a can't miss 4 or higher star before WVU will ever be better than 7-5. Despite that every 9+ win team WVU has ever had was with similar "7-5 kind of recruiting classes" that developed into a special team.
