Congratulations to the new Head Boys Basketball Coach at Petersburg High School, Ty White (@Chosen2give)!
Wonder if he will get the Hayfield treatment, if a bunch of players transfer?
From what I'm hearing around the 804 tri-city area some people in city Petersburg aren't happy with him coming in and bringing in his AAU TEAM to play at Petersburg.
It would suck for the kids who have come up through the system in Petersburg from a young age to all of a sudden be on teh bench or not on the team at all.
Yes I agree, but from inside the basketball Circle in the 804 and Hopewell, Petersburg area he's already got a couple of AAU kids maybe three or four for what I'm hearing. And this is coming from some players and coaches.
Not 100% sure, but that's the rumor that's going around from people close to insider's.

All 5 starters are not from petersburg and high school basketball is all about recruiting the best to win. From what I'm hearing the VHSL is investigating many high school for players transferring into others school with proper documentation and housing. But it's not on the player's. This just happened in Hopewell were the basketball team disenrolled players for this reason. Good looks teams.
The VHSL executive committee did that last summer. Now we will see if Petersburg towed the mark. A couple of football schools ran afoul of the new regs.
Petersburg HS Indoor track team performed well at the Central District Polar Bear meet at Dinwiddie. Zanari Davis placed 4th overall 55m & 2nd in 300m and other top performances from Kemonie Peebles, Daijah Foxx, Da’Son Johnson, Blu Riley.

Petersburg is trash, you will see them smack teams by 50 in Va. but on the national stage they are nothing more than a glorified AAU team. Freshman is a YouTube player for clicks and likes, I don’t see an ounce of dog in him. Just got exposed again out of town ….

I watched petersburg play a couple of weeks ago at VSU. This team is not a home grown petersburg team. All 5 of the starters are not from petersburg they're transfers from other schools and coach white AAU team. So this is not traditional High School basketball as we know it. It's about recruiting the best players to play for you to win. This also will come to a end eventually.

The overall product at Petersburg leaves a lot to be desired. Bacot’s dad sticking his middle finger up (just inexcusable behavior from a grown man and he should’ve been escorted out of the gym), Ty White allowing his kids to talk trash and be arrogant, the fans are atrocious and unbearable and sportsmanship is not a thing in Petersburg. Ty White had my upmost respect at JM. We can talk about “recruiting”all day but he ran a tight ship. I don’t know what this MESS is that he’s running at Petersburg but it’s TRASH! The kids share a lot of accountability but the adults in place are the reason this current generation of kids are way way way behind and we are cooked as a nation if this behavior doesn’t get called out, held accountable and have significant changes made. Petersburg has some fine people in that city, but this basketball team is a HORRIBLE representation of their city. Very sad state of affairs for one of the proudest programs in the state of Virginia.
Oh yeah, the two RECRUITS, LaTrell Allmond and LaDarias Givan (Mississippi State and Oklahoma State signees) will be ineligible this post season. Thank you VHSL.

All this outlandish showboating and inexcusable behavior is a result of everything that is wrong with what society labels (no, it’s not organic) black culture”. Too much affiliation with hip hop that promotes no humility whatsoever, lack of leadership, a matriarchal upbringing, and which is all anecdotal of not having a walk of faith in the lord. Is it these kids fault? Not 100% I would mostly blame the adults/gaurdians/parents of the young men which im sure most want to have structure & discipline. But I’ll say one last thing, for the ones who let this foolishness happen or look the other way, just know in life, the standards you have of someone is symbolic of what you really think of them.
They both left two public schools out of state (Givan is from Alabama and Allmond is from North Carolina) and transferred to John Marshall. With them leaving John Marshall to go to Petersburg during their senior season, they forfeited their post season eligibility under the new VHSL rules. Bacot (only a 9th grader) and Anderson (who transferred from a private school) will be able to play during playoff time even though they transferred in. Though the VHSL has way more stuff to clean up, this is a step in the right direction.
Was a huge supporter of JM, even going at it with the Radford fans in there defense. What I can’t get with at Petersburg is the blatant disregard/respect for the game or there opponents. The transfer from Catholic has A TON of growing up to do, all he does is talk smack while going out of town with a shooting split of 30-40–60%. T’d in the game they “needed” him in at John Wall because that’s what’s more important than executing the game plan… The freshman is what my old coach would call a “Prima Donna”, has the worst body language while shooting maybe just north of 60% from the FT line, while getting dogged on the defensive side of the ball. A far fall from Red Thompson who led his team from 9th grade with the upmost respect for the game, and his pops was/is a true leader who would never be out there flipping the bird like a clown. If you noticed, very few of Ty’s players stick or elevate at the next level… usually bounce around, then out….
Wasn’t sure that took effect this season… I’ll believe it when I see it or it’s official.
true. If they play in post season petersburg will have to forfeit the games.
