Stewart 1-8 from 3. I can't remember him making anything except in garbage time.

Dillione has some costly lapses on defense. I think it's because he has to do so much on offense that he gets gassed.

Gotta hand it to Rhoades for that awesome play call with 15 seconds left. Proved the ball had air in it and the best they can get is a contested fadeaway 3. Disgusting. Run your damn offense and get to the basket for a potential foul or a kickout for a better look at 3. This is far from the first time anyone's ever done this in college basketball but it's just an epidemic of stupid to not have any kind of set for the final sequence.

That will be forgotten when this coach gets fired at end of season when we finish 4-16 in conference.
How do you get the "4"" there? I'm having trouble finding 2. It's basically impossible to finish with zero so they'll accidentally win 1, but that's all I see

Who would you rather have the ball in that situation?

I would be sure that what happened was NOT what was drawn up in the huddle. You could tell Dilione froze up when he started dribbling back to the left and away from the basket.

You are correct he should have been going to the basket for a foul or a 17 footer which is is best shot. If Mingo could have played that last possession, he would have been able to get to the basket or pass out for an open look.

I think We should have inbounded it and got it past the midcourt line and then called time out and set a play rather than setting the play before the inbounds.

agree, or at least give one look to see if something quick was available then call it with 5 sec left

So far, I'm very disappoinited in Stewarts offense. He's supposed to be a pretty decent outside shooter. After last year, I expected to see some 3 pointers out of Dom. Maybe he's just not D1 material.

Agree, he took some bad shots last night as well. Rushed three early in the shot clock in the second half as they were making their run. Plus hes not good defensively and not a great athlete. As Blackwood figured things out, he should get those minutes. He's not a shooter yet either but he makes more things happen overall

Probably right but they usually pull out a few after it is clear the season is a complete disaster.

Here is my issue with Rhoades. The team plays just bad enough to lose just about every game to whomever they play with the blow out loss thrown in there. So when they play a team like NW or Rutgers they will also lose probably by 2 or 3 pts because they can't win close games. Therefore it is hard to take anything positive away from this game because that infers we could actually beat the lower end teams if we play Michigan close but it is not the case we just lose them all or almost all.

And they would hire who?
Someone who can get us to a .500 conference record to start with.

If we actually can land Mingo's brother and anyone else that will improve the performance dramatically then I guess we give him another year. However, at that point if it is still this dumpster fire last place team crap then you have to move on from him.

Apparently someone was supposed to set a screen on one side but was on the wrong side of the court. When it was obvious the play was blown up Dilione should have taken it in.

That sequence reeked of ‘we haven’t run anything in practice to simulate this situation’. The needless dribble toward the bench killed the entire possession.

My philosophy is run a set, get to the paint and either get a layup, pull up, or draw a foul. And when down 2, if you want to get saucy and kick it out for 3, go for it. To me, it’s not about who I want to take the shot but scheming it so the right person has the look. There’s too much iso-ball/heroball in the game and coaches are content to die on that hill in the final possession. Plus, they’re so scared of leaving time on the clock if successful. Well guess what, you gotta score first and if you take the shot at :06, you can potentially get a putback.

Tied - drive to basket
Down 1 - drive to basket
Down 2 - drive to basket and maybe kick out for a 3.

Yeah but Rhodes is the reason we got Mingo, getting rid of him probably means not shot at keeping the older one or getting the younger. They may both be gone after this year anyhow

I would have tried to lengthen the game by gettig a quick drive and shot before 5 seconds were left. If you miss you still have a few seconds and they have to make a couple FT

I never would have called a TO…always coached those situations in practice from a made free throw, go length of court with 8-12-15-20 seconds. Schrewsbury did the same thing a few years back against Purdue in championship game and I screamed at TV! Our best 3 pt shooter has the ball and he calls TO, to set up a play to get the same player the ball! Purdue put a 7-4 guy, Ivey, on the ball!
