i don't know, if they DID completely remove him from the entire process of hiring the O staff, what CAN he do to get himself fired? meddle? he stood on the table for KP, and from what I remember did the same with Brian Johnson. neither of those worked out. i'd think if he was on the hot seat, this season would have been that proverbial straw.

man... i remember saying when KP got the job, it didn't work last time they hired a first time playcaller from inside, why did they think it would be different this time? Sirianni is a HC that needs an OC to be able to stand on his own. Moore and Steichen were perfect examples. problem is, Sirianni needs to stay out of it.

I never said it would. I said I was optimistic. The issue with internal hires is that they were all Sirianni’s guys. They were all running a version of the same offense. At least with Mannion it’s probably going to be something different.

As OC maybe but I took it to mean the other position coaches. So now we have an OC with no real experience not only calling plays but also hiring a staff Trading Nick guys for his guys. I don’t see how this works.
2 things and I hope I m wrong but if u thought 25 had some distinction just wait to 26, ( offense)
I think we will also find out it wasn’t that KP that was the problem

no, I meant only the OCs. Sirianni is 1 for 3 hiring his guys (Steichen, Johnson, Patullo). His internal hires that I mentioned were bad bad. The 1 time he went outside was wildly successful. I agree Mannion has no playcalling experience and that’s a factor, but he’s got a lot going for him from coaches around the league. I 100% feel like it’s boom or bust, but I’m choosing to be optimistic about it.

And yeah, count me in on on blaming Patullo. Sure the players don’t play well (only 1 OL was even close to 100% all season and hurts seemed to regress) but we’ve seen generally the same O put up great numbers the year before. Granted they had a generational run game (healthy OL, Saquon with a chip on his shoulder) but I fail to believe Hurts can go from 2024 to 2025 and regress so badly all on his own. And what did a LOT of players complain about all season? Sequencing. Play calling. No adapting. That’s the OC calling plays in the head coaches system. period.

There was some speculation of retirement (age, and how he was injured a good bit this past season), that Lane might not return. It appears the speculation was inaccurate. There was also limited speculation about Dickerson's career ending early. Similar to Lane, that appears to be inaccurate.

good news on both. lets face Landon Dickerson at 80% is better than all the RG in the league, and at 80% is better than 90% of the LG in the league

I am calling BS on this . it really isnt any different relative to how it is blocked. The Eagles always have done this, though they did use more pin and pull than necessary, imo. but as Howie kinda says, thats splitting hairs....

The most significant change in the running game will come with the offensive line. The preferred wide-zone blocking scheme of the Shanahan-McVay offense is much different than the mid-zone scheme Jeff Stoutland employed with the Eagles for 13 seasons.

Stoutland was also the run game coordinator since 2018, but the alteration meant that he wouldn’t have returned in that role. Sirianni confirmed that he wanted Stoutland back, although the 64-year-old assistant would have had to teach his O-linemen a new run-blocking technique.

At its most elemental, wide-zone blocking has offensive linemen fire off the ball and block at an angle to create cutback running lanes. Mid-zone blocking has O-linemen more under control, perhaps required to win more at the point of attack and shuffle in their assignments.

One is not better than the other, they’re just different. The Eagles think their returning O-lineman can block in any scheme, but there will be an adjustment. The change could benefit an athletic center like Cam Jurgens, or it could hinder a cinder block like left guard Landon Dickerson.

“Will there be maybe a little bit more emphasis on movement and athleticism?” Roseman said. “Maybe a click. Maybe.”

Roseman was talking about how the new scheme may affect his evaluations in the upcoming draft. Right tackle Lane Johnson is returning for a 14th season, but the Eagles could be searching for his successor.

Stoutland was as involved as any coach in the pre-draft process and through his prioritization of “critical factors” helped the Eagles land Johnson, Dickerson, Jurgens, and left tackle Jordan Mailata, a former rugby player.

“We’re looking for a lot of the same things,” Roseman said, “with a lot of the same — a shout-out to Stout — critical factors that we’ve always been looking for.”
