Another set of Observations from Roob:

Roob and Dave have discussed this a few times on Eagle Eye. Roob is really bullish on Nolan Smith while Dave would rather have Phillips and mainly points to Smith's injury history while Roob comes back with Phillips' injury history. they go back and forth a lot.

Another set of Observations from Roob:

Also, roob really shows his age with this one. Going to Central/South America for treatment is becoming a lot more standard, as the FDA still has a death grip on the most advanced therapies. He's also really poo-poo'd Carters PRP procedure. i don't know if he just isn't as well versed in newer treatments and what they do, or if he's just stubborn and stuck in his old "surgical only" ways

6. I’m not going to pretend to be a medical expert, but Cam Jurgens’ Instagram post about receiving stem-cell treatment and other therapies in South America is rather concerning. Jurgens had back surgery last offseason but his back clearly wasn’t right this past season and Jurgens never looked like the dominating player he was in 2024. Jurgens called the visit a “health reset week,” but, yikes, do you really go to Medellin, Columbia, for a “health reset” that’s not available in the U.S.? A little scary. Especially considering Jurgens has three years left on a four-year, $68 million contract that he just signed in April. Kind of makes re-signing Brett Toth a little bigger priority than we thought.

It’s good they’re keeping him. He really came on last season. This makes one wonder about Jalen Carter long term.

I think they’re crazy to trade Carter, but I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes.

Keep in mind that Mitchell and DeJean are extension eligible after next season. Howie now has the good problem of drafting well and having to choose who to extend.

Do the Birds get Phillips extended before free agency starts???

I’m skeptical (surprise!). It feels like Phillips has everything to gain by seeing what the market offers are at this late stage.

I see that Dallas just traded for Rashan Gary from GB. Interesting move there. They’re clearly trying to improve that DL. Smart.

There was no way Philly could pay $30M a year. I suspected someone would throw stupid money at him. Best of luck to him.

I wanted the Birds to keep him, but with all the young guys on D coming up for their 2nd contract in the next couple of years, there was no way the Birds could spend $30M per year on Phillips.

Kind of frustrating, as Rap Sheet tweeted just yesterday that the Birds were working hard to re-sign Phillips, so I thought things were trending in a good direction.

In Howie we trust

It’s tough. You have a lot of teams with big cap space looking to make a free agent splash. It’s easy to convince yourself on one guy and go an extra year or $5 million to get a deal done.

Can’t fault the players either. Phillips has been hurt a lot in his short career. Now he gets $80 million minimum, no matter what injuries happen.

well I just didnt see that kind of production from the guy, maybe I missed something Id consider moving Campbell to Edge and resigning Dean
Agree. Phillips is a nice player. But he’s not Crosby or Garrett. And that’s what Carolina just paid for. Good luck.

Meanwhile, Howie traded a 3rd and paid $1.5M for half a season from Phillips. And he’ll get a compensatory 3rd rounder in the 2027 draft for losing him. Not awful business.

Bummer, but not surprising with Campbell highly regarded and ready to step in. Dean was very good, but hurt a lot. And they have all the other young guys to extend.
